    Abstract: The invention comprises compounds of the general formula (wherein R1 represents hydrogen, chlorine, bromine or a trihalomethyl group, Alk represents a straight or branched alkylene chain of 1-4 carbon atoms, and R2 represents a C1-4 alkyl group or a hydroxyalkyl or acyloxyalkyl group) and their acid addition salts, and the preparation thereof by reacting an appropriate 10-unsubstituted phenthiazine or azaphenthiazine with a compound of the general formula (wherein Hal represents a halogen atom), or reacting a compound of the general formula with a compound of the general formula at elevated temperature, or reacting a compound of the general formula at elevated temperature with a C1-4 alkyl ester, a haloalcohol or an acylated haloalcohol, and in either case, if desired, converting the resulting bases into acid addition salts. The products have anti-emetic and sedative properties.

    Abstract: The gaseous mixture resulting from the catalytic reaction of 3-methylpyridine with ammonia and oxygen is treated with water to recover 3-cyanopyridine. The treatment takes place in two steps. In the first step there is used a temperature of about 30 to 60.degree.C and in the second step at a temperature about 10 to 30.degree.C lower than in the first step.
