    Abstract: Intumescent flame-retardant coating composition consisting substantially of a film-forming agent, an ammonium polyphosphate, one or more substances which are carbonizable under the action of heat, a dispersant, and optionally a filler. The coating composition additionally contains an ammonium polyphosphate activator weighing 0.5 to 50% of the weight of ammonium polyphosphate. The activator is constituted by at least one salt which contains water of crystallization which is liberated upon the composition being heated to about 35 DEG C.

    Abstract: 1310802 Phosphorus - containing polyols KNAPSACK AG 28 May 1971 [23 July 1970] 17912/71 Heading C2P [Also in Division C3] Phosphorus-containing polyols of the formula wherein a is 0 or 1 provided that it must be 1 at least once in the molecule, n is 0 to 4, R 1 at least once is a halogenated hydrocarbon and at least twice is a hydroxyl-containing radical of the formula -(CHR 3 -CHR 4 -O) m -H and R 2 is a radical of the formula -(O-CHR 3 -CHR 4 ) m -, R 3 and R 4 representing a hydrogen atom or a C 1-6 optionally halogen-substituted hydrocarbon radical and m is 1 to 10, may be prepared by reacting a halogenated alcohol or phenol with P 2 O 5 and/or polyphosphoric acid, followed by reaction of the resulting product with an epoxide or by reacting a halogenated phosphite or phosphate with polyphosphoric acid or a mixture thereof with P 2 O 5 , followed by reaction of the resulting product with an epoxide. In examples, polyols are produced by reacting (1) tris - 2 - chloroethyl phosphate with a mixture of P 2 O 5 and polyphosphoric acid followed by reaction of the product with ethylene oxide, (2) tris-2-chloroethyl phosphite and polyphosphoric acid followed by reaction of the product with ethylene oxide, (3) 2-chlorethanol and P 2 O 5 followed by reaction of the product with ethylene oxide, and (4) tris-2-chloroethyl phosphate and a mixture of polyphosphoric acid and P 2 O 5 , followed by reaction of the product with propylene oxide. The polyols may be used in the preparation of polyurethanes (see Division C3).

    Abstract: PROCESS FOR REMOVING CARBON BLACK FROM AQUEOUS SUSPENSIONS The invention relates to a process for removing carbon black from an aqueous suspension obtained by washing a gas containing carbon black with water. To this end, a gas stream comprising hydrocarbons and at least one inert gas is introduced into a suspension having a solids content of from 0.5 to 4 % by weight, at a temperature of from 10 to 80.degree. C. In so doing, the carbon black agglomerates and collects on the surface of the suspension water from which it is separated, for example by skimming it off. The gas stream is produced by passing inert gas over the separated carbon black containing the hydrocarbons and heated to 200 to 400.degree. C, the carbon black being converted into a dry, free-flowing material.
