Abstract: The method involves selecting an antenna mapping at a transmitting wireless transmit/receive unit (Tx WTRU) from a candidate set of currently available antenna mappings. Another antenna mapping is selected at a receiving (Rx WTRU) from the candidate set of currently available antenna mappings. A determination is made whether the currently selected antenna mappings are calibrated at the Tx WTRU. The selected antenna mappings are calibrated if it is determined that the selected antenna mappings are not calibrated. An independent claim is also included for a wireless communication system.

Abstract: Un método y aparato para seleccionar un mapeo de antena en redes de comunicacion inalámbrica habilitadas para entrada multiple-salida multiple (MIMO). Un conjunto candidato de mapeos de antena disponibles en forma corriente se determina en base a las condiciones de canal medidas a largo plazo. Un mapeo de antena es seleccionad del conjunto candidato, y el mapeo es calibrado con un mapeo de antena seleccionado de una unidad inalámbrica de transmision/recepcion (WTRU). Cuando los mapeos seleccionados son calibrados, comienza la transmision de datos de paquete. En una forma de realizacion alternativa, se utiliza una trama de entrenamiento de calibracion (CTF) para calibrar multiples mapeos de antena en forma simultánea o secuencial. Se divulgan, además, formatos de trama de capa de control de acceso al medio y de capa física para implementar una seleccion de mapeo de antena, de acuerdo con la presente.

Abstract: Un método para implementar una antena inteligente para establecer una asociacion entre uno estacion (STA) y un punto de acceso (AP) en una red inalámbrica de área local comienza cuando el AP transmite una trama de baliza sobre un haz de antena. La trama de baliza es recibida en la STA, que mide la calidad de senal de la trama de baliza. El AP conmuta a un haz de antena diferente y repite el método hasta que la trama de baliza ha sido transmitida sobre todos los haces de antena. La STA se asocia con el AP que transmite la trama de baliza con la calidad de senal más alta sobre uno de sus haces de antena. Puede utilizarse un método similar donde la STA envía una trama de pedido de prueba al AP, que luego responde con tramas de respuesta de prueba enviadas sobre multiples haces de antena.
