Abstract: A user equipment and a method for use by a user equipment is disclosed, comprising the steps of providing, by the user equipment, to a radio link control layer information from a medium access control layer and selecting an radio link control protocol data unit size in response to the information from the medium access control layer. Producing, by the user equipment, radio link control protocol data units having the selected size and providing the produced radio link control protocol data units to a medium access control layer as a flow. Providing, by the user equipment, a plurality of flows at the medium access control layer, each of the plurality of flows having an associated priority and having an associated credit value. Producing, by the user equipment, a medium access control protocol data unit by taking data from a highest priority flow up to the associated credit value and taking data from other flows subsequently. Transmitting, by the user equipment, the produced medium access control protocol data unit.

Abstract: A method for taking measurements with a smart antenna in a wireless communication system having a plurality of STAs begins by sending a measurement request from a first STA to a second STA. At least two measurement packets are transmitted from the second STA to the first STA. Each measurement packet is received at the first STA using a different antenna beam. The first STA performs measurements on each measurement packet and selects an antenna beam direction based on the measurement results.
