Abstract:
A method and system for eliminating interference caused by hidden nodes is disclosed. An initiator control message is defined for an initiator, (typically a wireless station (STA)), in order to begin an aggregate frame exchange with at least one responder. The initiator control message includes information on the queue sizes at the initiator. A responder, (typically an access point (AP)), sets up the required protection for the transmission of data by the initiator based on information on the queue sizes indicated in a field of the initiator control message using a responder control message. Other STAs that receive the responder control message set parameters for a wireless medium access accordingly. In another embodiment, multiple receiver aggregate multi-poll (MMP) and power save aggregation descriptor (PSAD) control frames are configured for transmission by a non-AP STA to provide enhanced scheduling and mitigate hidden node problems.
Abstract:
A method and system for controlling access to a medium in a wireless communication system. A superframe structure is defined in time domain to include a contention free period (CFP) which has at least one scheduled resource allocation (SRA) (3712), at least one management SRA (MSRA) (3718) and a contention period. An extended beacon (EB) (3746) including information about the SRA and MSRA is transmitted for. The architecture reduces station battery consumption, supports higher throughput for non-real time (NRT) traffic and is more efficient for real time (RT) traffic while maintaining full compatibility.
Abstract:
In a wireless digital communication system which may employ CDMA technology, a method (50) and system for obtaining channel quality (CQ) measurements for downlink resource allocation wherein a User Equipment (UE) (12) continuously measures RSCP (step) based on a communication on a reference channel provided by the network. The UE (12) measures timeslot ISCP (step 56) either continuously, by configuration or by rotation and reports downlink CQ (step 58). The UE (12) may report the RSCP once and the ISCP per timeslot, or may report some function of the RSCP/ISCP ratio such as modulation parameters or combined coding of all timeslots.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for encoding channel quality indicator (CQI) and precoding control information (PCI) bits are disclosed. Each of input bits, such as CQI bits and/or PCI bits, has a particular significance. The input bits are encoded with a linear block coding. The input bits are provided with an unequal error protection based on the significance of each input bit. The input bits may be duplicated based on the significance of each input bit and equal protection coding may be performed. A generator matrix for the encoding may be generated by elementary operation of conventional basis sequences to provide more protection to a most significant bit (MSB).
Abstract:
In an orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) system, a frequency domain channel estimate for non-nullified subcarriers is converted to a time domain channel estimate. The number of taps L of a channel model is determined based on the time domain channel estimate. An improved time domain channel estimate is obtained by computing L tap coefficients of the channel model from the frequency domain channel estimate. An improved frequency domain channel estimate is obtained by performing a Fourier transform on the improved time domain channel estimate. Alternatively, a time domain truncation method may be performed selectively only if the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) is below a threshold. Alternatively, a frequency domain channel estimate for pilot subcarriers are converted to a time domain channel estimate and an improved frequency domain channel estimate is obtained based on the number of pilot subcarriers and a delay spread.
Abstract:
The method involves sending a request frame to a responder by an initiator, and sending a response frame to the initiator without sending a separate acknowledgement (ACK) frame for acknowledging receipt of the request frame. The response frame is sent by the responder within a short inter-frame spacing (SIFS) from time that the responder receives the request frame, where the responder has a request identity number in the response frame. An independent claim is also included for a wireless communication system comprising an initiator.
Abstract:
A method and system is disclosed for enhancing reception of wireless communication signals. A beam pattern including at least one set of beams is generated. Where the beam pattern includes at least two sets of beams, the beam sets may be offset with respect to each other and alternated to enhance reception. Beams may be selected for data processing based on a signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and may be maximal-ratio combined where signals from a single WTRU are detected within more than one beam and are used for data processing.
Abstract:
A wireless communication method and system for controlling the current data bit rate of a radio link (RL) to maintain the quality of the RL. The system includes a core network (CN), a radio network controller (RNC) and at least one wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU). The RL is established between the RNC and the WTRU. The RNC establishes a guaranteed data bit rate, a maximum data bit rate and a current data bit rate associated with the RL. When the RNC senses an event which indicates that the quality of the RL has substantially deteriorated, the RNC reduces the value of the current data bit rate. Then, in a recovery process, if a similar event does not occur during an established waiting period, the RNC restores the current data bit rate back to the maximum data bit rate.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for selecting an antenna mapping in multiple-in/multiple-out (MIMO) enabled wireless communication networks. A candidate set of currently available antenna mappings is determined based upon measured long term channel conditions. An antenna mapping is selected from the candidate set, and the mapping is calibrated with a selected antenna mapping of a receiving wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU). When the selected mappings are calibrated, packet data transmission begins. In an alternative embodiment, a calibration training frame (CTF) is used to calibrate multiple antenna mappings simultaneously or sequentially. Also disclosed are physical layer and medium access control layer frame formats for implementing antenna mapping selection according to the invention.
Abstract:
An aggregated medium access control (MAC) frame (300-Fig.3) for use with multiple transmission rates in a wireless communication system includes an aggregated header; at least one MAC protocol data unit (MPDU), the MPDUs being grouped together in the fram by transmission rate of the MPDU; and a separating sequence between each rate group. The aggregated header (302) includes a coun field (312) to indicate a number of rates that have been aggregated in the frame and an information group (326) for each rate that has been aggregated in the frame.
