PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus for recording a sequence of video data signals on a record carrier (3). SOLUTION: The apparatus comprises input means (1) for receiving video data signals, generating means (100) for generating characteristic point information signals, processing means for processing the characteristic point information signals for a plurality of characteristic points into a sequence of characteristic point information signals (CPI) and writing means for writing the sequence of video data signals and the sequence of characteristic point information signals on the record carrier (3). The characteristic point information signals identify a characteristic point in the sequence of the video data signals. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent unauthorized use of content by determining propriety of reproduction of content based on the decision of validity of an IC recorder which records ID in a disk. SOLUTION: An information processor acquires an ID recorder certificate including the equipment ID of the ID recorder which has recorded the ID in the disk and an ID recorder black list from the disk, and decides whether or not the equipment ID recorded in the ID recorder certificate is registered in the ID recorder black list, and further compares the issue date of the ID reorder certificate with the issue date of the ID recorder black list or an equipment invalidation date, and decides validity of the ID recorder. The reproduction of the disk recording content is stopped based on a decision that the ID recorder is the unauthorized equipment. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technology of simply and surely preventing unauthorized copy of thumbnail pictures. SOLUTION: A thumbnail encoder 19 generates the thumbnail pictures of a video signal received from a terminal 12. A macro vision detection section 13, a CGMS detection update section 14, and a WM (watermark) detection update section 15 respectively detect an analog copy protection signal (APS) of the video signal received from the terminal 12, a CGMS signal as copy generation management information or an a watermark, and provide an output of them to a controller 21. The controller 21 generates copy limit information of the thumbnail pictures on the basis of the copy limit information. An information recording medium 26 records the thumbnail pictures and the copy limit information. SOLUTION: An allocation class is prescribed as attribute information related to allocation of files to be recorded on an optical disk, and files of which the allocation class is Gathered File are collectively recorded in a Gathered File area formed in a prescribed position preliminarily determined on the optical disk. Files File1 to File3 including titles of contents are recorded in this Gathered File area. Though recording positions A1 and A2 for FSD(File System Descriptor) are fixed, recording positions A3 to A4 of the Gathered File area are changed when necessary.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently record an encoded stream onto a recording medium and to speedily perform random access. SOLUTION: An inputted transport stream is divided for each time unit having a prescribed length and among packets included in each time unit, the packets of a channel, to which recording is designated, are collected and recorded on the recording medium without adding any dummy packet. The data length of a time unit TU0 expressed with a value subtracting a leading address A (TU0) of the time unit TU0 from a leading address 'time unit address' of a recorded packet among respective time units TU0, TU1 and TU2 such as leading address A (TU1) of a time unit TU1, for example, is correspondently recorded on the recording medium as a time unit map.

PURPOSE:To prevent performance from being lowered by cancelling defocus due to the displacement of a spot reflected by an optical disk substrate and thrown on a four-division photodiode. CONSTITUTION:The output Z0 of an arithmetic circuit 13 for focus error components is supplied to an adder circuit (or a subtraction circuit 17), and the outputs X and Y from arithmetic circuits 14 and 15 for the displacement components in the directions of x-axis and y-axis are supplied to a multiplication circuit 16 for muliplying a constant -alpha and the values of displacement X and Y in amount are multiplied by the constant -alpha=-pi/4s, and the multiplication result is supplied to the adder circuit (or subtraction circuit) 17 to perform the addition (subtraction) of Z0-alpha.X.Y. As a result, a true focus error signal FE0 is produced and amplified by a focus error amplifier 18, and then undergoes a phase compensation circuit 19 for phase compensation and is supplied to a drive amplifier 20, and a focus actuator 23 is driven by the drive amplifier 20 to always keep a focus lens 3 at a proper focus position relative to an optical disk substrate 4 for focus servo.

PURPOSE:To stabilize focus setting without issuing the switching signal to a focusing servo by controlling a focusing error signal shutting out the light source of an optical system when an objective lens approaches to an optical disk surface (focus setting. CONSTITUTION:A focusing actuator 52 is driven by a setting driving signal S1 and an objective lens 53 mounted on the actuator 52 is driven so as to be approach to or separated from the surface of an optical disk 50. Focus setting action is executed by means of a focusing error signal SER1. When the lens 53 approaches to the surface of the disk 50, an emitting laser source 55 of the optical system 54 is shut out by the actuator 52 and when the lens 53 is separated from the surface of the dusk 50, the laser source 55 emits beams. Thus, at the time of falling of the saw-tooth wave of the driving signal S1, i.e., in the course in which the lens 53 approaches to the surface of the disk 50 the laser source 55 is turned off. In the meantime, focus setting action is executed and the state of the focusing servo is made stable.

PURPOSE:To shorten seeking operation by providing a recording track forming a great number of revolving patterns and having a prescribed number of blocks on each periphery and providing a clocking recording part and an information recording part on every block. CONSTITUTION:A pulse Pc based on a clocking pit Qc in a reading output signal SI is detected by a pulse detection part 24 and supplied to a clock reproduction part 26, and a clock signal PC synchronized with the pulse Pc is generated and supplied to a tracking error generation part 23, a control unit 35, etc. Address information DA from an address 31 and target address information DAT from a target address setting part 36 are compared by the unit 35 and a control signal CS in accordance with the difference of address values and switch control signals S1, S2, S3 are formed. A head driving signal SH, a tracking control signal ST and a focus control signal SF are formed by these signals and supplied to a head driving part 15 and a beam control mechanism 13 respectively. Thus, a time required for seeking operation is shortened.
