    Abstract: PURPOSE:To regenerate ion exchange body which has been used for the purification of condensate of an atomic power plant with high efficiency by treating an ion exchange body having colloidal substances adsorbed thereto with an acidic soln. to eliminate the colloidal substances. CONSTITUTION:Colloidal substances are eliminated by treating an ion exchange body having colloidal substances adsorbed thereto with acidic soln. Similar elimination effect may be obtd. also by the irradiation with supersonic wave, or supersonic wave irradiation in acidic soln. The ion exchange body may include powdery, particulate, or fibrous ion exchange resin, among which ion exchange fiber is most preferred. Useful acidic soln. is mineral acid such as HCl, H2SO4, or org. acid such as formic acid, etc. Preferred frequency, irradiation time of the supersonic wave, and the temp. of water bath during irradiation, is 28kHz, 1-60min, and ca. room temp. to 50 deg.C, respectively.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a fibrous phase-transfer catalyst having high catalytic activity and high mechanical strength, capable of being formed into an arbitrary shape and easy to handle, by constituting the same from an insoluble polymonovinyl aromatic compound and a reinforcing polymer. CONSTITUTION:The titled catalyst consists of an insoluble polymonovinyl aromatic compound having a group or structural unit having phase-transfer catalytic capacity such as tributylammonium group, a trioctylphosphonium group or crown ether structural unit introduced into the side chain thereof and a reinforcing polymer having fiber forming capacity such as polypropylene or polyethylene and spun into, for example, a multi-core composite fibrous form.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:Fibers of aromatic monovinyl polymer are treated with formaldehyde in the presence of an acid catalyst in a solvent as formaldehyde is constantly being fed to produce the titled fibers inexpensively, which is used as an adsorption material because of their high adsorptivity comparable to active carbon and chemical stability. CONSTITUTION:Fibers of straight-chain aromatic monovinyl polymer such as polystyrene are treated with a solution consisting of an acid catalyst such as conc. sulfuric acid, a solvent for aromatic monovinyl compound such as nitrobenzene and formaldehyde wherein formaldehyde is constantly fed and the reaction is conducted, preferably at 0-30 deg.C, thus producing the objective fibers having aromatic monovinyl polymer chains as the major structure units and 0.3-3mol, per mole of the aromatic ring in the polymer, of oxymethylene groups introduced into the aromatic ring.
