    Abstract: Embodiments of the invention relate to an assembly for forming a cased well. The assembly may include an undercut drillable cementing shoe with a casing string connection at a first end. The shoe includes external tubing that forms a second end of the shoe and has a first section defining an enlarged inner diameter relative to a second section of the external tubing. The assembly may also include an earth removal member coupled to the second end of the shoe. The first section of the shoe is disposed between the earth removal member and the second section of the shoe. In another embodiment, the assembly may include a casing string having a first portion with a larger inner diameter than a second portion. The assembly may also include an earth removal member coupled to an end of the casing string. The first portion of the casing string is disposed between the earth removal member and the second portion of the casing string.

    Abstract: The present invention discloses and claims a system for forming an opening, or window, in a downhole tubular for the subsequent formation of a lateral wellbore. In the system of the present invention, an apparatus is run into the parent wellbore which includes at least a tubular having a drill bit, a diverter such as a whipstock releasably connected to the drill bit, an anchoring device such as a packer, and a milling device. This apparatus allows for the milling of a window in the parent wellbore, and the drilling of a lateral wellbore through that window, in a single trip.

    Abstract: Methods are disclosed for wellbore operations in an earth wellbore with tubi ng within casing in an earth wellbore, the wellbore extending down into earth from an earth surface, the tubing including a tubing string with a lower end and extending down within the casing with the lower end at a point above a lower end of the casing, a tubing-casing annulus between the tubing and the casing sealed by a first sealing apparatus, the method including sealing the lower end of the tubing string with a sealing device to prevent fluid flow therethrough, and sealing the tubing casing annulus with a second sealing apparatus above and spaced apart from the first sealing apparatus. In certai n aspects the sealing apparatuses provide upper and lower spaced-apart primary barriers. The methods in additional aspects include making an exit opening through the tubing and an exit opening through the casing, each exit opening located between the first sealing apparatus and the second sealing apparatus . In other aspects the methods include drilling a lateral wellbore from the ex it opening through the casing. Apparatus is disclosed that is useful in such methods.

    Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention generally provide methods and apparatus for forming a tubular-lined wellbore which does not decrease in diameter with increasing depth or length. In one aspect, a portion of a second casing (220) is expanded into a portion of a first casing (204) having a larger inner diameter than the remaining portion of the first casing string. In another aspect, the portion of the second casing is expanded into a portion of the first casing having a compressible member (505) therearound. In another aspect, a lined lateral wellbore may be constructed by forming a lateral wellbore extending from a main wellbore lined with casing. A diameter of at least a portion of the lateral wellbore may be expanded. An expandable tubular element may be run into lateral wellbore and expanded to have an inner diameter equal to or larger than an inner diameter of the main wellbore casing. Embodiments provide a fluid path around casing before sealing the casing within a wellbore or within a well casing, even after the casing has been hung within the wellbore or from the well casing.

    Abstract: The present invention generally relates to a method and apparatus for drilling with a top drive system. In one aspect, the present invention provides for a top drive system having a top drive (50), top drive adapter (40), and a tubular positioning apparatus. In one aspect, the top drive adapter is pivotably connected to the top drive for pivoting the top drive adapter toward the casing string with respect to the top drive. In another aspect, the system includes a telescopic link system connected to a lower portion of the top drive adapter to move the casing string into engagement with the top drive adapter. In another aspect, the top drive adapter includes a housing operatively connected to the top drive and a plurality of retaining members disposed in the housing for gripping the tubular. In another aspect, the tubular positioning apparatus (100) includes a gripping member for engaging a tubular and a conveying member for positioning the gripping member (150). A spinner may be provided to rotate the tubular.

    Abstract: A method and apparatus for a drilling with casing includes therewith a drill shoe (10) configured for later drilling through thereof in situ, with cutters retainable thereon in response to the forces encountered during borehole drilling, yet moveable from the envelope through which the later drill shoe will pass when cutting through the in situ drill shoe (10). The drill shoe (10) includes one or more profiles thereon, into which blades (26) carrying the formation drilling cutters are disposed.     Abstract: The inventions relates to an apparatus for connecting a control line to a tubular string. In one embodiment, the apparatus includes a guide boom pivotable around a location adjacent the string and with a guide member at a n end thereof to guide the control line. The apparatus further includes a clam p boom that is independently pivotable and includes a clamp housing at an end thereof for clamping the control line against the tubular string.
