Abstract: An improved expansion assembly for an expander toot is provided. The expander tool is used to expand a surrounding tubular body within a wellbore . Accordingly, a method for expanding a surrounding tubular is also provided. The expansion assembly first comprises a piston disposed within a recess of the expander tool. The top surface of the piston closely receives a pad. The pad is held in close proximity to the top surface of the piston such that it does not rotate about a shaft. This arrangement reduces the geometric size of the expansion assembly , affording a larger inner diameter for the hollow bore of the expander tool itself. At least one reinforcement member is disposed on or within the pad to strengthe n the pad during an expansion operation. The reinforcement member is fabricated fr om a durable material, and is arranged along the pad in the area of contact with the surrounding tubular during an expansion operation.

Abstract: The present invention provides an expandable tubular having improved polished bore receptacle protection. The present invention further provides methods for completing a wellbore through the use of an expandable string of casing having improved polished bore receptacle protection. In one aspect, the invention includes a liner member having an expandable section, and a polished bore receptacle positioned below the expandable section. The expandable section is run into a wellbore, and is positioned to overlap with the bottom portion of a string of casing already set within the wellbore. The expandable section is then expanded into frictional engagement with the surrounding casing. The expandable section optionally includes at least one sealing member and at least one slip member on the outer surface. In one aspect, a transition section is provided between the expandable section and the polished bore receptacle. The transition section defines a sloped inner diameter which provides further protection for the sealing surfaces of the polished bore receptacle as tools, fluid, and tubulars are transited downhole through the polished bore receptacle.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention relates to hydraulically actuated tools , which may be used to actuate a liner hanger assembly. In one embodiment, the present invention provides a hydraulic setting tool (113) for use in wellbor e operations. The setting tool includes a first tubular member (130) and a second tubular member (120) disposed around the outer diameter of the first tubular member. A piston (110) is mechanically attached to an upper portion of the second tubular member and adapted to move axially in relation to the fir st tubular member. The piston acts to transmit a force to the second tubular member. A slip assembly (162) is operatively connected to the second tubular member and the second tubular member transmits the force to the slip assembl y thereby actuating the slip assembly.

Abstract: A swivel 100 for use in a wellbore comprises a top body 90, a bottom body 80, and a sleeve 225. The sleeve can selectively causes the two bodies to rotate together in a first position (fig 1), or allow the bodies to rotate independently in a second position (fig 2). This is preferably achieved by engaging and disengaging co-operating sets of splines 240 associated with the sleeve and bodies. The sleeve may be actuated by a drop ball. Abstract: The expansion apparatus, run into a wellbore on a working string, 150, comprises a rotary expander 200 for expanding an expandable tubular 120 and a spline assembly 230 for coupling the rotary expander to a motor 30 disposed on the work string. The rotary expander and spline assembly have hollow bodies that allow them to encircle the work string and rotate relative thereto. The spline assembly comprises an inner sleeve 231 and outer sleeve 232. The inner sleeve is attached to the motor and the outer sleeve is attached to the rotary expander, coupled to each other using a spline and groove connection. The connection allows the rotary expander to be rotated by the motor, while at the same time, allow the rotary expander to move axially relative to the motor. The rotary expander comprises two rows of rollers 260u, 260L for expansion against the tubular. The position of the rollers on the first row is skewed in one direction relative to the longitudinal axis. The rollers on the second row are skewed in an opposite direction. When actuated, the skew angle of the rollers will cause the expander tool to move axially. Because the rollers of the two rows are placed at opposing skew angles, alternating actuation between the two rows of rollers causes the expander to move in opposite axial directions during expansion.

Abstract: The present invention generally provides a running tool (100) comprising a torque-dampening system. A first portion (116) and a second portion (118) of the running tool are operably related by a torsion interface (128). In one embodiment, the torsion interface includes a plurality of interlaced teeth (130A,130B) disposed on the each of the first and second portions. During relative rotation of the first and second portions, the teeth engage and "ri de up" on one another, thereby forcing the first and second portions in opposit e axial directions. At least one of the portions houses a flow restrictor assembly (264) adapted to restrict fluid flow from one region to another during the axial movement of the portions. Accordingly, the relative rotatio n between the portions is inhibited, or dampened.
