The PDP includes a first substrate and a second substrate opposing each other, barrier ribs arranged in a space between the first substrate and the second substrate to define a plurality of discharge cells, phosphor layers formed in each of the plurality of discharge cells, address electrodes formed on the second substrate, and display electrodes provided on the first substrate. The display electrodes include igniter electrodes having ends protruding towards insides of the discharge cells, the igniter electrodes opposing the address electrodes within the discharge cells.

Abstract: To provide a plasma display panel which improves the write characteristics, luminous luminance, and luminous efficiency and which has a longer life. On a back glass substrate, data electrodes are formed in the substrate column direction. Over the data electrodes, a dielectric layer is formed. On the dielectric layer, scan electrodes are formed in a substrate row direction. Over the scan electrodes, a dielectric layer is formed. On the dielectric layer, partitions are formed in the substrate column direction. On the dielectric layer including the partitions, a protection layer and a fluorescent material layer are formed. On the other hand, on a front glass substrate, common electrodes and bus electrodes electrically connected to the common electrodes are formed in the substrate row direction so as to be opposed to the scan electrodes. Over the common electrodes and the bus electrodes, a dielectric layer and a protection layer are formed.

Abstract: The first object of the present invention is to provide a PDP with improved panel brightness which is achieved by improving the efficiency in conversion from discharge energy to visible rays. The second object of the present invention is to provide a PDP with improved panel life which is achieved by improving the protecting layer protecting the dielectrics glass layer. To achieve the first object, the present invention sets the amount of xenon in the discharge gas to the range of 10% by volume to less than 100% by volume, and sets the charging pressure for the discharge gas to the range of 500 to 760Torr which is higher than conventional charging pressures. With such construction, the panel brightness increases. Also, to achieve the second object, the present invention has, on the surface of the dielectrics glass layer, a protecting layer consisting of an alkaline earth oxide with (100)-face or (110)-face orientation. The protecting layer, which may be formed by using thermal Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD) method, plasma enhanced CVD method, or a vapor deposition method with irradiation of ion or electron beam, will have a high sputtering resistance and effectively protect the dielectrics glass layer. Such a protecting layer contributes to the improvement of the panel life.

Abstract: It is an object of the present invention to prevent deterioration of a transparent electrically-conductive film which forms display electrodes, so as to enhance the reliability of display electrodes. In an AC type plasma display panel including a plurality of display electrodes X & Y formed of a transparent electrically-conductive film or a multiple layer of a transparent electrically-conductive film plus a metal film a width of which is narrower therethan, and a dielectric layer to cover the display electrodes from the discharge space, the dielectric layer is formed by the use of a ZnO-containing glass material containing substantially none of lead. Moreover, the display electrodes are protected by coating the dielectric layer so far as the ends of display electrodes; and the coating is removed afterwards by etching, etc..
