Abstract: Production of catalyst with support having ring geometry and shell of catalytically-active oxide (I) containing molybdenum, bismuth, iron plus cobalt and/or nickel and optionally other elements involves producing dry mixture of starting materials for (I), thermal treatment at 150-350 deg C to give precursor mass, moistening support with water, contacting with mass to form coating, drying and calcination at 400-600 deg C. Production of a catalyst with support having ring geometry and shell of catalytically-active oxide of formula (I), containing molybdenum (Mo), bismuth (Bi), iron (Fe) plus cobalt (Co) and/or nickel (Ni) and optionally other elements, by producing intimate dry mixture of starting materials for (I), thermal treatment at 150-350 deg C to give precursor mass, moistening support with water, contacting it with this mass to form coating, drying and calcination at 400-600 deg C. X = cobalt (Co) and/or nickel (Ni); X = silicon (Si) and/or aluminum (Al); X = lithium (Li), sodium (Na), potassium (K), cesium (Cs) and/or rubidium (Rb); a = 0.2-1; b = 2-10; c = 0.5-10; d = 0-10; e = 0-0.5; y = value giving neutral charge, depending on valency and frequency of elements other than oxygen (O). An Independent claim is also included for catalysts produced in this way.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for carrying out the two-stage catalytic gas phase oxidation of propene to form acrylic acid. The inventive method provides that, in a multitube fixed-bed reactor, the reaction gas starting mixture having a propene load >/= 160 Nl propene / l.h is firstly conducted over a fixed-bed catalyst feed material (1), which is located in two successive temperature zones A, B, and afterwards, is conducted over a fixed-bed catalyst feed material (2), which is accommodated either in another temperature zone C or in two additional temperature zones D, E. The temperature of zone A is maintained at a lower temperature than that of zone B, and the temperature of zone D is maintained at a lower temperature than that of zone E.

Abstract: Gas phase oxidation of propylene into acrylic acid in which the mixture of reaction gas is oxidized on a first fixed-bed catalyst and the mixture of product gas which contain acrolein oxidized on a second fixed-bed catalyst. The catalyst shaped bodies comprise an annular geometry in both reaction steps. Gas-phase oxidation of propylene in a one-stage reaction to acrolein and/or acrylic acid or in a two-stage reaction to acrylic acid is such that (i) the initial charge in both cases is \- 160 Nl propylene/l catalyst hour; (ii) the charge to the 2nd stage (if used) includes \- 140 NL acrolein/l catalyst hour ; and (iii) the catalyst or catalysts is/are of ring form with an outer diameter 2-11 mm, length 2-11 mm and a wall-thickness 1-5 mm. The process comprises (A) feeding a mixture of propylene, molecular oxygen and an inert gas with molar ratio O2 : C3H6 \- 1 at high temperature over a solid bed catalyst with characteristics (i) and (iii) above and comprising a multi-metal oxide containing Mo and/or W together with Bi, Te, Sb, Sn and/or Cu such that the propylene conversion and the combined selectivity for acrolein and the acrylic acid by-product are both \- 90 mol.%; and optionally (B) cooling the acrolein-containing gas product and optionally adding molecular O2 and/or inert gas prior to passing it at high temperature and with molar ratio O2 : acrolein \- 0.5 over a Mo- and V-containing multi-metal oxide solid bed catalyst such that the acrolein conversion is \- 90 mol.% and the combined two-stage acrylic acid selectivity (based on propylene conversion) is \- 80 mol.%.
