Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate mitigating a hidden node condition in a wireless mesh network wherein nodes utilize a request-to-send/clear-to-send (RTS/CTS) protocol in conjunction with an asynchronous hybrid automatic repeat request protocol. For instance, a node may contend for a set of subcarriers by sending an RTS signal over the desired subcarriers, and may receive a CTS signal over the contended subcarriers, wherein the CTS signal indicates which subcarriers the node may transmit data over. If another node has won the contention for a particular subcarrier, requesting node may adjust a power level at which it transmits an RTS or a data packet in order to permit the requesting node to utilize the subcarrier without interfering with the winning node.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method and system for contacting a local computer on a private network over a public network using a specialized domain name server. In one embodiment, a remote computer initiates a request to communicate with a local computer on a private network using a domain name assigned to the local computer. Upon receiving the request to communicate, a specialized domain name server generates a subsequent request for the local computer to communicate with the specialized domain name server. Next, a network address translator generates a public network address for contacting the local computer and transmits the public network address to the specialized domain name server. The specialized domain name server then communicates the public network address to the remote computer which is then able to contact the local computer using the public network address.

Abstract: A mobile wireless terminal (MWT) receives IP packets destined for a ground network in a predetermined sequence order. The MWT fragments each of the IP packets into many smaller packet fragments, appends identifying information to each of the packet fragments, and transmits the packet fragments in parallel with one another over concurrently operating satellite channels. A receiving station receives the packet fragments transmitted by the MWT. The receiving station forwards the received packet fragments to a ground controller over a network connection, based on the identifying information appended to the packet fragments. The ground controller combines the packet fragments into reconstructed IP packets based on the identifying information appended to the fragments. The ground controller also sequences the reconstructed IP packets in the predetermined sequence order based on the identifying information. The ground controller forwards the reconstructed IP packets in the correct sequence order to the destination ground network. The same sequence of events occur in the opposite direction as well i.e., from the ground controller to the MWT.
