Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily judge whether or not an optical disk is the disk whose recording capacitance has been made large. SOLUTION: The synchronizing pattern of ATIP information to be buried into the guide groove of a light spot is made to be the different synchronizing pattern in a high density optical disk, for example, '3T+3T+1T+1T' ('T' is the minimum channel bit of a signal which is obtained by reading position information) with respect to the synchronizing pattern of a standard density optical disk, which is '3T+1T+1T+3T', whose recording capacitance has not been made large. ATIP information is read and the synchronizing pattern is judged so that it can be easily and rapidly judged whether the optical disk is the standard density one or the high density one.

In a linking section, the switches 70a and 70d are switched to terminals 'b' side to supply the signals TE to a hold circuit 70b so that low region components of the inputted tracking error signals TE are outputted. The switches 70a and 70d are controlled by control signals Cs2 supplied from a system controller based on linking signals, address information of the linking section, or the strength of reflected light beams from a disk. Thus, tracking error signals TE are held over a portion or all portion of the linking section.

Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To perform a correct signal evaluation with a simple constitution by detecting phase error information from a readout data signal, obtaing an evaluation signal while making the absolute value of this information an analog signal and performing the quality evaluation of the signal while performing the A/D conversion of the evaluation signal. SOLUTION: A readout EMF signal from a binary circuit 25 is supplied to a PLL circuit and a reproducing clock PLCK synchronized with the EMF signal is generated to be supplied to necessary respective parts. Moreover, the EFM signal is also supplied to an evaluation signal generating circuit 35 and an evaluation signal HS is generated from the EFM signal and the reproducing clock PLCK in the circuit 35. This signal HS makes the phase error information between the EMF signal and the reproducing clock PLCK an absolute value and also an analog signal. The signal HS is supplied to the A/D conversion input port of a system controller and is made to be a digital value to be fetched in the controller. As a result, the controller can make the evaluation signal HS the scale of the quality evaluation of the signal. Thus, the correct quality evaluation of the reproduced signal is performed by a simple circuit constitution.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To suppress a temperature rise of a magnetic head and to prevent a decrease in quality of a record signal by increasing and decreasing a frequency of records in response to a time in which a current flows to the head within a predetermined time immediately before at each predetermined time after a recording is started. CONSTITUTION:A controller 41 receives a command from a host computer 44, and starts recording without reducing a transfer rate of a record in the case of recording. Then, the controller 41 starts counting of number of sectors, and obtains the number of the sectors recorded within a predetermined time immediately before at each predetermined time. If the obtained number of the sectors is larger than a set value, the transfer rate is reduced, and a magneto-optic disc 31 is recorded by a magnetic head 43 through a record data processor 42. Further, the controller 41 returns the transfer rate to an original rate if the rate is already reduced in the case where the obtained number of the sectors is not larger than the set value. Thus, a temperature rise of the head 43 is suppressed, and a recording quality is improved.
