Abstract: An intelligent interface system is provided for connecting an external application to a distributed control system (DCS). The interface system is operable to automatically scan the DCS to determine its configuration and build a topology model of the DCS. The topology model is used to determine whether data requested from a module in the DCS can be provided by the module. The topology model is constructed to be thread-safe. A throttling mechanism in the interface system protects the DCS from being subjected to excessive data requests.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a modular gas chromatograph (10) having a display screen. The gas chromatograph includes an explosion-proof housing (12) and a transparent panel secured to the housing. The display screen is disposed in the housing and is visible through the transparent panel. The gas chromatograph has a plurality of modules, including a feed- through module (14) , an analytical module (16) and a display module containing the display screen. The analytical module may be removed from the housing as a unit. The GC module includes a column assembly and a printed circuit board, both of which are mounted to a valve assembly. A plurality of electronic devices are mounted to the circuit board. The electronic devices include non-volatile memory, pressure sensors and detector devices.

Abstract: A method and system operates a well having an outer casing, a tubing positioned inside the outer casing, and a plunger moveable within the tubing to periodically draw out a liquid slug. A chemical to slug size ratio is set by the operator. Thereafter, the gas flow rate is monitored and the well is shut-in when the gas flow rate drops below a predetermined threshold. After well shut-in, a calculated amount of chemical foaming agent is injected. The size of the liquid slug is calculated and then the well is opened, drawing the plunger and liquid slug up to the surface. The calculated amount of chemical foaming agent is calculated based on one or more previous liquid slug size determinations and the set chemical to slug size ratio.

Abstract: There is described a method and apparatus for controlling the combustion by-product formation rate in at least one burner of a fossil fuel fired power plant. The burner has an associated flame scanner which is focused on a small area of the burner flame to obtain an image signal of the flame. A flame signal that represents properties of temporal combustion in the visible light spectrum of the burner is generated from the image signal. Combustion turbulence at the burner is analyzed from the flame signal by a dynamic invariant that has a relationship to the combustion by-product values and different combustion by-product levels at the burner and the combustion turbulence is correlated to the combustion by-product formation rate at the burner. The method and apparatus can also be used to correlated the combustion turbulence at a multiplicity of burners to the associated combustion by-product formation rate.
