Abstract: The invention provides an improved cellulosic ester or ether product with an ester or ether degree of substitution (D.S.) of between 2.0 and about 2.9 which is derivatized or further reacted by reaction with an acrylamide reagent to substitute to a pendent acrylamide functionality D.S. of from about 0.05 to about 0.5 (leaving an unreacted or unsubstituted hydroxyl D.S. of from about 0.05 to about 0.95), and to thereby provide a polymerizable organic solvent-soluble product which is insoluble in water and copolymerizable with vinyl monomers. The product is prepared by reacting a cellulose ester or ether derivative with a catalyst and the acrylamide reagent at a pH of from about 4.2 to about 4.5. The reaction is carried out at a temperature between 80°C and 120°C for from one-half to three hours, while removing the water of reaction.

Abstract: 2002810 A method of purifying hydrolysed protein compositions by contact with crystalline zeolite agglomerates is provided. A reduction in the concentration of chlorohydrins, measured as 1,3-dichloropropan-2-ol, in hydrolysed protein compositions can be obtained by contacting the hydrolysed protein composition with a crystalline zeolite agglomerate, e.g., as pellets, beads or granules of crystalline zeolite. The method allows removal of chlorohydrins without affecting the organoleptic qualities of the hydrolysed protein.

Abstract: In one embodiment, fat and/or protein liberated during a starch hydrolysis operation is suitably removed from the resulting starch hydrolysate solution by contacting said solution with a non-hydrolyzed granular starch material in a fashion so as to adsorb and/or coat said fat and/or protein onto said granular starch material and thereafter separating the resulting fat and/or protein containing starch material from said starch hydrolysate solution. In another embodiment, granular starch remaining non-hydrolyzed following a direct, granular starch hydrolysis process and having liberated fat and/or protein residues coated, adsorbed or otherwise accumulated thereon is pasted, thinned, separated from said fat and/or protein residues and recycled to said granular starch hydrolysis process for further hydrolysis to glucose therein.
