    Abstract: PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for controlling a temperature of cooling water in a vehicle are provided to prevent an engine from being overheated by controlling a cooling fan according to a temperature measured from a head gasket. CONSTITUTION: A head gasket(10) is installed between a cylinder head and a cylinder block. A first temperature detecting sensor(12) is positioned on the head gasket(10). A second temperature detecting sensor(14) is provided adjacent to a water pump in order to detect a temperature of cooling water. The water pump circulates cooling water through a cooling water passage and a radiator. A control unit(16) is provided to determine whether an engine is overheated or not by receiving temperature information from the first and the second temperature detecting sensors(12,14). A cooling fan driving section(18) operates a cooling fan based on a control of a control unit(16). An alarm section(20) is provided to notify an error of a cooling system.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: An ignition timing controlling method is provided to stabilize fuel combustion when idling, low-speed and intermediate-speed rotation by minimizing the IMEP(Indicated Mean Effective Pressure) difference of respective cylinders through the individual control of the ignition timing of the cylinders. CONSTITUTION: An ignition timing controlling method of cylinders comprises the steps of: deciding the existence of throttle change while an engine rotates(20); calculating an angular velocity on the basis of crank angle before and after explosion without the throttle change(21); calculating a crank angular velocity and the angular velocity change of cylinders for 720 degrees(22); deciding if the angular velocity change is regular(23); and retarding the ignition timing of cylinders of large angular velocity change and advancing the ignition timing of cylinders of small angular velocity change if the angular velocity change is irregular. According to the individual control of the ignition timing of the cylinders, IMEP is output uniformly. Therefore, combustion becomes stable when idling, low-speed and intermediate-speed rotation.
