    Abstract: A device with a touch-sensitive display may be unlocked via gestures performed on the touch sensitive display. The device is unlocked if contact with the display corresponds to a predefined gesture for unlocking the device. The device displays one or more unlock images with respect to 5 which the predefined gesture is to be performed in order to unlock the device. The performance of the predefined gesture with respect to the unlock image may include moving the unlock image to a predefined location and/or moving the unlock image along a predefined path. The device may also display visual cues of the predefined gesture on the touch screen to remind a user of the gesture.

    Abstract: A portable electronic device (e.g. a mobile phone) comprises display, a user input such as a touch-screen interface and storage means for storing a plurality of images 142 associated with contact information such as addresses, phone numbers and email addresses. A processor (e.g. 702, figure 35) receives user input commands and controls the display to enable display, navigation and selection of images. A plurality of the images are concurrently displayed, the display of which changes in response to the user input commands. A method of operating the device is also disclosed. The device provides an image-based browser 140 for browsing contact information by scrolling through representative images, via touch-based input commands. One of the images is displayed in an undistorted format in a primary position whilst other images are displayed in secondary positions in a skewed/distorted/smaller/partially obscured format. In response to a user input command, such as a finger swipe/slide action across the touch-sensitive screen the primary position image is replaced by a secondary position image and itself moved to a secondary position. The user may select the primary position image to display associated contact information and/or initiate communication (e.g. a phone call or email) with the selected contact. Also described is an image-based browser and method for browsing images associated with media items on a portable electronic device wherein the media items may be videos/movies, photos, music albums or data files etc.
