PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide portable electronic devices that display structured electronic documents such as web pages on a touch screen display.SOLUTION: A computer-implemented method for use in conjunction with a portable electronic device with a touch screen display comprises displaying at least a portion of a structured electronic document on the touch screen display, where the structured electronic document comprises a plurality of boxes of content, and detecting a first gesture at a location on the displayed portion of the structured electronic document. A first box in the plurality of boxes at the location of the first gesture is determined. The first box on the touch screen display is enlarged and substantially centered.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic apparatus for determining commands by applying heuristics to user gestures detected on a touch screen display. SOLUTION: A method for determining command by applying heuristics includes the steps of: detecting one or more finger contacts with a touch screen display; applying one or more heuristics to the one or more finger contacts to determine a command to a device; and processing the command. The one or more heuristics include: a heuristic for determining that the one or more finger contacts correspond to a one-dimensional vertical screen scrolling command; a heuristic for determining that the one or more finger contacts correspond to a two-dimensional screen translation command; and a heuristic for determining the one or more finger contacts correspond to a command to transition from displaying a respective item in a set of items to displaying a next item in the set of items. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a touch event model for web pages.SOLUTION: A method includes: obtaining one or more touch input signals from a touch sensitive device (step 302); on the basis of the touch input signals and by use of a touch event model, determining touch and/or gesture events associated with the touch input signals generated from different regions of a web page displayed on the touch sensitive device (step 304); by the touch and gesture events, providing access to at least one of the touch and gesture events through a programming interface (step 306).

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To simulate multi-point gesture input by a computer system using a single pointing device. SOLUTION: Simulation software can receive single pointing inputs such as input from a mouse and convert them into simulated multi-point gesture inputs such as finger pinches, reverse pinches, translation and rotation. By using a touch event model, a touch and/or gesture event can be determined on the basis of their touch input signals. This touch and gesture event can be associated with the touch input signals generated from the different areas of a Web page displayed on the touch sensing device. Thus, it is possible to give access to at least one touch or gesture event via a programming interface.

If the touch input signals are associated with one or more regions of a web page displayed on the touch sensitive device, a touch event associated with the regions of the web page is processed by the web page. Otherwise, the touch events can be processed by an application (e.g., a browser).
