Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide an electron emitting element to perform light emission and electron emission with a low power consumption which is favorable for embodying an image forming device producing a light and high-grade image by equipping the electron emitting element with a conductive film having an electron emission part between electrodes, and locating the conductive film in a specific position. CONSTITUTION: An electron emitting element has a conductive film 3 having an electron emission part 2 between electrodes 4, 5, wherein the film 3 having electron emission part 2 which is favorably a gap formed in the film 3 is located on a light emitting body 6. The light emitting body 6 should preferably be such one as energized by a low-speed electron beam and emitting light. The intended image forming device is composed of a plurality of such elements, a modulating means to modulate the electron beam emitted by each element in conformity to the information signal, and an image forming member (phosphor, etc.) to form images by means of irradiation with electron beam.

The graphite film 6 shows a plurality of peaks of diffusion light according to Raman spectroscopic analysis using a laser beam source of a wavelength of 514.5nm and a spot diameter of 1μm, and among them the peak around 1580cm is greater than the peak (P1) around 1335cm .

Abstract: PURPOSE: To provide a surface conductive electron emission element having a new structure, having electron emission characteristics suitable for an electron source of an image forming device. CONSTITUTION: In a surface conductive electron emission element wherein an electron emitting part 2 is provided on a conductive thin film 3 for communicating element electrodes 4, 5, the continuous linear distribution is provided between the electron electrodes, and the distribution is provided to a resistance value of the conductive thin film 3 in a single element. The change of the emission current amount, caused by dispersion or fluctuation of driving voltage by noise can be restrained without unnecessary rising of the element driving voltage.

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide a low power consumption electron source and image forming device using an electron emitting element by subjecting the element under the manufacture to a process to reduce the electric resistance of a conductive film, arnd thereby lessening the driving voltage and power consumption of the element CONSTITUTION:An electron emitting element has a conductive film 4 including an electron emission part 3 between two opposing electrodes 5, 6. In manufacturing, the electron emitting element is subjected to a process to reduce the electric resistance of the film 4 formed between the two electrodes 5, 6. The process should preferably be a reductive treatment of the conductive film. Examples are: (1) heating at 100-400 deg.C in a vacuum, (2) heating in a reductive gas atmosphere at a temp. between room temp. and 400 deg.C (the gas of H2, CO, H2S), and (3) heating at 20-100 deg.C in a reductive solution (hydrazine, formic acid, aldehyde, etc.).

Abstract: PURPOSE:To provide an electron source having a uniform electron emitting characteristic by having a current carrying forming process, performed by dividing a plurality of surface conduction type electron emitting elements into a plurality of groups, in a process of forming an electron emitting part. CONSTITUTION:Lower wiring, interlayer insulating layer, upper wiring, element electrode, electron emitting part forming thin film, etc., are formed on an insulating board, to prepare a power supply board applying forming non-processed simple matrix wiring. Each surface conduction type emitting element D (1, 1) to D (6, 6) is connected to matrix wiring DX1 to DX6 and Dy1 to Dy6. Now, a ground level is applied to the wiring DX3, and on the other hand prescribed potential is applied from a voltage source VE to except the DX3 of the X direction wiring, simultaneously with applying potential from VE to also the Dy1 to Dy6. As a result, to both ends of the selected D (1, 3) to D (6, 3), voltage is applied to perform forming. On the other hand, in the other element, no forming is performed, to generate no deterioration and damage at all on the thin film.
