    Abstract: An S-correction circuit for a video display apparatus provides switchable amounts of correction in a given line deflection interval in order to satisfy the requirements of cathode ray tubes having large deflection angles or faceplates having complex curvatures. A second S-shaping capacitor (42) is coupled in parallel with the main S-shaping capacitor (16) by action of a switching transistor (40). The time at which the transistor (40) is switched may be controlled, for example, by modulating the switching point at a vertical rate, in order to increase the flexibility of the correction circuit.

    Abstract: System performance of picture-in-picture video display systems is dependent on critical timing relationships between the incoming signals and the clock signals used to sample and display both the large picture and small picture signals. Video signals from various sources, e.g. VTR's, tend to have jittering time bases which may cause the small image to appear jagged or tilted. This distortion in the small image may be reduced by effecting adaptive signal delays in the small picture signal responsive to the relative phase of the system clock signal with respect to the horizontal synchronizing pulses of the large and/or small picture signal. One phase measure is used to control an interpolator which combines successive samples of the small picture signal in proportions to develop sample values corresponding to samples that would have occurred had the small picture signal been sampled by a clock properly aligned to the small picture horizontal synchronizing pulses. A second phase measure is used to delay the clock signal used to display the small picture so that the clock pulses that define the edges of the small picture occurs with the same timing relative to the large picture horizontal synchronizing pulses form line-to-line.

    Abstract: A speed-up memory doubles the field rate of a video input signal by repeating each field to reduce flicker when the double field rate signal is displayed. Read/write clocks for controlling the memory are locked to the color subcarrier of the video input signal thereby tending to produce visual artifacts in the displayed image due to clock skew relative to sync when non-standard video signals are processed. The skew errors are corrected by circuitry which measures the skew of the read and write clocks and delays the video signal as a function of a difference between the clock skew measurements.

    Abstract: In a television receiver regulated power supply that is responsive to the state of a remote on/off command signal, the AC mains supply voltage is connected to the input terminals of a bridge rectifier through the mechanical switch portion of an on/off relay. A remote control circuit energizes the relay coil to close the mechanical switch upon receipt of the on-state command signal. The bridge rectifier then develops an unregulated DC voltage that is applied to a high frequency inverter for developing an alternating polarity input voltage. The alternating polarity input voltage is applied to a self-regulating or ferroresonant power supply circuit to produce regulated output voltages for various television receiver load circuits such as the ultor load and the horizontal deflection circuit. During a fault operating condition of the self-regulating circuit wherein the output voltages would tend to increase excessively, a protection circuit detects the occurrence of the fault operating condition and disables the remote control circuit to deenergize the relay coil and open the mechanical on/off switch. Operation of the self-regulating circuit stops to thereby deenergize the television receiver load circuits.

    Abstract: A trace switch (S H ), operated at a line rate, is coupled to a line deflection winding (L H ) and a trace capacitance (C t ) for applying a trace voltage (V t ) to the deflection winding (L H ) to generate line scanning current in the deflection winding (L H ). A deflection retrace capacitance (C RH ) is coupled to the deflection winding (L H ) for forming a deflection retrace resonant circuit (40) during the line retrace interval to generate a deflection retrace pulse voltage (V R ). A modulator inductance (L m ) is coupled to the trace switch (S H ) and to the line deflection winding (L H ). A modulator switch (S m ) applies a line rate, switched mode, modulation voltage (V m ) directly to the modulator inductance (L m ) to control the amplitude of the current in the modulator inductance (L m ) at the end of the line trace interval. A modulator retrace capacitance (C Rm ) is coupled by the modulator switch (S m ) to the modulator inductance (L m ) during the line retrace interval for forming a modulator retrace resonant circuit (50). The switched mode modulation voltage is varied (42) at a field rate to provide side pincushion correction to the line scanning current (i H ).
