CONSTITUTION: A polarized plate is placed below a lower display panel and is perpendicular to a transmittance axis of an upper polarized plate. A lower glass insulating substrate is placed on the polarized plate of the power display panel. A gate line(300a) and a sustain electrode line(500) are placed on the lower glass insulating substrate.     Abstract: A fringe in-plane field switching liquid crystal display is provided to apply a liquid crystal display having optical isotropy to an FIS mode, thereby obtaining very superior viewing angle properties. A transparent common electrode(4) is formed in a flat type on a lower plate by using a transparent glass substrate or a plastic substrate. Data lines(1,1') and a source/drain layers(2,2') are formed on a gate line(3) in pair to apply voltages having different polarity between two separated pixel electrodes. An insulating film(5) is formed on a common electrode. Slit patterns are crossly formed on the first and second transparent pixel electrodes(6,7). Widths of the first and second pixel electrodes having slit patterns are thinner than 10 micro meter. A gap(8) between the first and second pixel electrodes is narrower than 30 micro meter.

    Abstract: A reflective cholesteric liquid crystal color filter is provided to obtain a constant pitch regardless of viewing angles by forming hemispheric shapes on a lower substrate coated with cholesteric liquid crystal. A reflective cholesteric liquid crystal color filter includes a lower substrate(110), a plurality of hemispheric shapes(120), an orientation film, and a cholesteric liquid crystal layer. The lower substrate is a transparent glass substrate. The hemispheric shapes are patterned on the lower substrate by using positive or negative photosensitive material. Diameters, heights, and arrangement of the hemispheric shapes are irregular to prevent a moire phenomenon or a color shift phenomenon due to light interference. The orientation film is formed on the hemispheric shapes. The cholesteric liquid crystal layer is formed on the orientation film.

    Abstract: A high aperture and wide viewing single gap transflective LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) is provided to improve an aperture ratio by disposing secondary capacitance in a voltage-reflectance curve, thereby maximizing aperture ratios of the voltage-reflectance curve and a voltage-transmittance curve. One pixel is divided into a voltage-reflectance curve and a voltage-transmittance curve. A cell gap of the voltage-reflectance curve and the voltage-transmittance curve is almost equally formed. A reflectance plate(2) functioning as a counter electrode and plural transparent pixel electrodes(4) of slit and bar types are formed in upper end of the voltage-reflectance curve as leaving a space for a passivation layer(3). A fringe field is formed according as a vertical filed component and a horizontal field component coexist when voltage is applied. In the voltage-transmittance curve, a pixel electrode of a plate shape is formed in a lower array substrate(1). In an upper substrate(9), a transparent counter electrode(8) is formed in a location of the voltage-transmittance curve. By coating vertical alignment layers to both of the upper and lower substrates, LC is vertically erected before applying initial voltage. The LC has negative dielectric anisotropy.

    Abstract: A VA(vertically aligned) mode LCD using a polymer wall is provided to improve initial stability of a liquid crystal director in operating the LCD and reduce a response time by forming an inclined electric field from a cell upper substrate to a lower substrate. An upper substrate(2-a) is placed under an upper polarizer plate(1-a). A common electrode(3-a) is placed under the upper substrate, and is a transparent electrode from which an electrode of a diameter of 1 m, which causes an inclined electric field is removed at a central portion of a pixel in voltage application. A vertical alignment layer(4-a) is coated on a lower portion of the lower substrate, and makes initial alignment of liquid crystals perpendicular to the substrate. A polymer wall is formed at a lower substrate, maintains a cell thickness with the upper substrate, confines the liquid crystals, and determines initial orientation of the liquid crystals. A vertical alignment layer(4-b) makes initial alignment of the liquid crystal perpendicular to the substrate on the polymer wall and a surface of the lower substrate. A pixel electrode(3-b) is a transparent electrode placed under the polymer wall. The lower substrate(2-b) serves as a lower for the polymer wall, the vertical alignment layer, and the pixel electrode. A lower polarizer plate(1-b) is placed under a driving circuit, and is attached such that its transmission axis becomes orthogonal to the upper polarizer plate.
