Abstract: La presente invención se refiere a una método para producir etanol mediante fermentación, caracterizado porque comprende: a) fermentar una masa pulposa fermentable en la presencia de por lo menos un biocida no oxidante que es dihalonitrilopropionamida, por lo menos un péptido antibacteriano policíclico y levadura, en un recipiente para producir etanol y un contenido de sólidos, en donde el biocida no oxidante controla el crecimiento de baterías en la masa pulposa sin reducir la población de levadura y en donde el biocida no oxidante y el péptido antibacteriano policíclico son sinérgicos con relación al control biocida de por lo menos una bacteria durante y/o después de la fermentación para producir etanol, en donde dicha sinergia se define como: QA/QA+QB/Qb es menor que 1, y Qa = concentración del compuesto A en partes por millón, actuando solo, que produjo un punto final; Qb = concentración del compuesto B en partes por millón, actuando solo, que produjo un punto final; QA = concentración del compuesto A en partes por millón, en la mezcla, que produjo un punto final; QB = concentración del compuesto B en partes por millón, en la mezcla, que produjo un punto final; b) destilar la masa pulposa fermentada para separar por lo menos una porción del etanol del contenido de sólidos; y c) obtener un producto de granos secos del destilador del contenido de sólidos.

Abstract: A method is provided for measuring an electrolytically-active species concentration in an aqueous or non-aqueous solution for use in providing control of the concentration of the species in a source solution thereof based on the measurements. In the method, a sample containing an electrolytically-active species is added into a measurement cell that has a working electrode and an auxiliary electrode, and a constant current is applied to the measurement cell while the working and auxiliary electrodes are in contact with the sample with monitoring of voltage difference across the electrodes until a change in the voltage difference is detected. A feedback signal is generated based on a parameter of the change in the voltage difference that is directly proportional to the amount of the electrolytically-active species in the sample, which can be used for process control. An apparatus is also described.

Abstract: A method and composition is described for controlling the growth of fouling materials, such as scale, in aqueous systems using a tagged (fluorescent) polymer. The tagged polymer can be a fluorescent polymer which has at least one fluorescent monomelic unit derived from a fluorophore which has at least one terminal end comprising an olefinic group. The method of controlling the growth of at least one fouling material in an aqueous system can include the steps of adding the tagged polymer to the aqueous system to be treated, fluorometrically monitoring the concentration of the tagged polymer, and adjusting, as needed, the concentration of the tagged polymer and proportionally used water treatment compound or compounds effective to control the growth of at least one fouling material in the aqueous system. The adjustment of pH before determination of the fluorescence signal can be employed to increase sensitivity of the fluorophore and minimize background interference.

El método para controlar el crecimiento de por lo menos un material de ensuciamiento en un sistema acuoso puede incluir las etapas de adicionar el polímero marcado al sistema acuoso que es tratado, inspeccionar fluorométricamente la concentración del polímero marcado y ajustar, como sea necesario, la concentración del polímero marcado y proporcionalmente el compuesto o compuestos para tratamiento de agua utilizados efectivos para controlar el crecimiento de por lo menos un material de ensuciamiento del sistema acuoso. El ajuste de pH antes de la determinación de la señal de fluorescencia se puede emplear para incrementar la sensibilidad de fluoróforo y minimizar la interferencia de fondo.
