Abstract: Techniques to mitigate inter-cell interference using joint time and frequency division are described. A frequency band is divided into multiple non-overlapping frequency subbands. The transmission timeline is divided into T in and T out time intervals. Data is exchanged with users in at least one inner region of a cell on the entire frequency band in the T in time intervals. Data is exchanged with users in multiple outer regions of the cell on the multiple frequency subbands in the Tout time intervals. The frequency band may be partitioned into three frequency subbands. Data may then be exchanged with users in first, second and third outer regions on first, second and third frequency subbands, respectively. The regions in which the users are located may be determined based on pilot and/or other measurements.

Abstract: A system and method for a time-scalable priority-based scheduler. A flexible scheduling algorithm utilizing variable scheduling durations enables better system capacity utilization. A rate request (408) is transmitted if data arrives in a buffer, data in the buffer exceeds a buffer depth, and sufficie nt power exists to transmit at the rate requested. A rate assignment (418) responsive to the rate request indicates a scheduled duration and a schedule d rate applicable for the scheduled duration. The scheduled duration is less than or equal to a scheduling period (508). The scheduling period is an interval of time after which a scheduler makes a scheduling decision. The scheduling period is variable and the scheduled duration is variable. The scheduler is preferably applied in a UMTS, CDMA 2000 or HDR-system for rever se link rate scheduling.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for hierarchical communications and low latency support within a wireless communications system. An eNB and/or a UE may be configured to operate within the wireless communications system which is at least partially defined through a first layer with first layer transmissions having a first subframe type and a second layer with second layer transmissions having a second subframe type. The first subframe type may have a first round trip time (RTT) between transmission and acknowledgment of receipt of the transmission, and the second layer may have a second RTT that is less than the first RTT. Subframes of the first subframe type may be multiplexed with subframes of the second subframe type, such as through time division multiplexing. In some examples symbols of different duration may be multiplexed such that they different symbol durations coexist.
