Abstract:
A switch circuit including a first differential amplifier pair (Q1, Q2) providing a portion of an isolation channel, a second differential amplifier pair (Q3, Q4) providing a portion of a transmit channel, and a third differential amplifier pair (Q5, Q6) providing a control bias for selecting either the transmit channel or the isolation channel. The switch circuit provides 35dB isolation between input and output over a 15GHz-26GHz range, yet is only 500µ by 250µ in size.

In accordance with the present invention, a quadrature hybrid circuit is provided comprising a first spiral inductor and a second spiral inductor separated by an insulating layer to provide all necessary capacitances intrinsically. Further, a vector modulator circuit is provided that incorporates a plurality of quadrature hybrid circuits on a MMIC contained within a chip scale package.
Abstract:
A process of determining an imminent-collision between a vehicle (401) and an object, said vehicle having a sensing system for obtaining one or more images representing at least one observed object (402) within a field of detection, said process comprising: (a) obtaining one or more images representing an observed object (402) within said field of detection; and (b) determining that a collision between said vehicle (401) and said observed object (402) is imminent when the ratio of the probability that said observed object (402) is actually within a collision zone (403) to the probability that said observed object (402) is actually within a safe zone (406,407) is greater than a certain value.
Abstract:
A system and method for retransmission of voice packets in wireless communications are provided. The method includes transmitting a voice packet (402) from a base station to a communication unit or from a communication unit to a base station at a rate faster than a generation rate of the voice packet. The method further includes determining whether the transmitted voice packet is successfully received (404) and retransmitting the voice packet (412) if not successfully received. The number of retransmissions is limited by a predetermined value.
Abstract:
The invention is a method and apparatus for dissipating heat in a dielectric resonator circuit in which resonators are mounted to an enclosure by highly thermally and electrically conductive supports, such as metal rods, that pass through the longitudinal through hole in the center of the resonator. The supports preferably are attached within the through holes by a highly thermally conductive, but dielectric sleeve positioned between the support and the resonator. The rod or support has a diameter selected to minimize any reduction in quality factor, Q, for the circuit. Alternately, the support can be a highly thermally conductive dielectric and the inner wall of the through hole can be metalized.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for producing a modulation scheme usable in conjunction with information transmission and reception via waveforms, such as electromagnetic waves. The modulation scheme is usable for such purposes as resolving range ambiguities and overcoming fading and interference problems via use of offset signals that vary in frequency over time (e.g., chirp signals), which spread the signal over a larger bandwidth. The method includes coding a symbol signal onto a split data stream containing a reference signal (e.g., a chirp), to which a time delay has been applied, then recombining the split streams to produce a composite waveform. The method can also include demodulating a composite received waveform by applying a reference signal to the waveform and then band pass filtering the waveform into discrete symbol data. Apparatus and systems are also provided for performing the method.
Abstract:
An apparatus for electromagnetic processing comprises a controller and a processor for receiving an input signal. The processor comprises one or more stages in communication with the controller. The controller is capable of regulating the input signal and the one or more stages to generate an output signal.
Abstract:
A switch includes at least two signal ports in series with a series FET connected therebetween, and a shunt path having an FET, whereby an input bias is applied to a gate on the series FET and to a drain on the shunt FET. In one embodiment, the switch includes a control signal input, an FET connected in series across the first port and the second port, the series FET having a gate coupled to the control signal input, and a shunt path provided by an FET, the shunt FET having a drain coupled to the control signal input and to the gate of the series FET, whereby a single control signal is applied to both the series FET and the shunt FET, via the control signal input, in order to turn the series FET on and simultaneously turn the shunt FET off and, conversely, in order to turn the series FET off and simultaneously turn the shunt FET on.
