    Abstract: A portable electronic device (100) having a touch screen display (112) detects a first finger-down event at a first position (5805) on the touch screen display (112). The first position. (5805) is adjacent to first and second user interface objects (5806, 5802). The portable device (100) detects a second finger event at a second position (5808,5812,5809,5817,5807) on the touch screen display (112). The second finger event is either a finger-dragging event or a finger-up event. The portable device (100) determines a type of the second finger event and a distance between the first position (5805) and the second position (5808,5812,5809,5817,5807). The portable device (100) performs a first action associated with the first user interface object (5806) if the distance is greater than a predefined threshold and performs a second action associated with the second user interface object (5802) if the distance is equal to or less than the predefined threshold and the second finger event is a finger-up event.

    Abstract: A method, comprising: at a portable electronic device with a touch screen display: detecting a first gesture on the touch screen display; responding to the first gesture by displaying a first soft keyboard, the first soft keyboard containing a plurality of keys, the plurality of keys in the first soft keyboard including primarily letter keys, the plurality of keys in the first soft keyboard including a first keyboard selector key for selecting a second soft keyboard different from the first soft keyboard; detecting a second gesture on the touch screen display; responding to the second gesture by displaying the second soft keyboard, the second soft keyboard containing a plurality of keys, the plurality of keys in the second soft keyboard including: number keys, a first group of non-letter keys, and a second keyboard selector key for selecting the first soft keyboard; detecting a third gesture on the touch screen display; and responding to the third gesture by displaying a third soft keyboard that is different from the first soft keyboard and the second soft keyboard, wherein: the third soft keyboard is made up of a second group of non-letter keys and symbols and includes at least one non-letter key of the first group of non-letter keys; the first soft keyboard includes a key that, when activated, capitalizes the next letter chosen; the second soft keyboard includes a key that, when activated, initiates display of the third soft keyboard; and when the second soft keyboard is displayed, the key that, when activated, initiates display of the third soft keyboard is displayed at a location on the touch screen display that was previously occupied by the key in the first soft keyboard that, when activated, capitalizes the next letter chosen.

    Abstract: Systems, methods and machine readable media for processing voicemails are described. In one embodiment, a method includes presenting, on a first data processing system, a first user interface which is capable of presenting data representing a plurality of voicemails and receiving from the first user interface a selection for playback of one of the plurality of voicemails. The data representing the plurality of voicemails are received from a second data processing system which includes a voicemail system which records voicemails left for customers of a public telephone carrier, and the first user interface is configured to receive the selection of any one of the plurality of voicemails in any order. Systems, media and other methods are also described.
