    Abstract: PURPOSE:To produce a copolymerized polyester excellent in heat resistance at low cost, by reacting a specific aromatic hydroxycarboxylic acid, a polyester, a diol, a dicarboxylic acid, and acetic anhydride under specified conditions. CONSTITUTION:An aromatic hydroxycarboxylic acid of formula I (e.g., p- hydroxybenzoic acid), a polyester of formula II of a condensate obtained from an aromatic dicarboxylic acid and an alkylene glycol (e.g., polyethylene terephthalate), an aromatic diol of formula III (e.g., 4,4'-dihydroxybiphenyl), an aromatic dicarboxylic acid of formula IV (wherein Ar1-Ar4 are each a divalent aromatic group; and R1 is divalent alkylene) (e.g., terephathalic acid), and acetic anhydride are prepared. When these components are reacted to produce a polyester copolymer, part or the whole of the polyester of formula II is post-added to the reaction system wherein the temperature is 150 deg.C or above, thereby producing the aimed copolymerized polyester.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain a high polymerization degree polymer only by melting and polymerization, and to manufacture the title moldable injection molded form having excellent optical anisotropy, heat resistance, rigidity and shock resistance by a normal molding machine by injection-molding copolymerized polyester consisting of a specific structural unit. CONSTITUTION:[(I)+(II)] in the structural unit formulae (I)-(III) of copolymerized polyester occupy 77-95mol% of the whole, and the mol ratio of (I)+(II) extends over 75/25-95/5. These condensation polymerization reactions are accelerated even in a noncatalytic manner, but it is preferable that a metallic compound such as stannous acetate, tetrabytultitanate, sodium acetate and potassium acetate, antimony trioxide, metallic magnesium, etc. is often added. Said copolymerized polyester is injection-molded. The thermal deformation temperature (load 18.6kg/cm ) of 150 deg.C or higher of an injection molded form is required.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the titled injection-moldable polymer having excellent heat- resistance, rigidity, etc., by acylating p-hydroxybenzoic acid, an aromatic dihydroxy compound and a dicarboxylic acid, etc., and polymerizing the acylated compounds. CONSTITUTION:The objective polymer having a melt viscosity of preferably 10-15,000 poise and containing a structural unit of formula I-III (R1-R3 are bivalent aromatic group, etc.) wherein the amount of I+II is 77-95mol%, that of III is 23-5mol% and the molar ratio of I/II is 75/25-95/5 can be produced by (1) charging (A) p-hydroxybenzoic acid, (B) an aromatic dihydroxy compound (e.g. 4,4'-dihydroxybiphenyl), (C) an aromatic dicarboxylic acid (e.g. terephthalic acid) and (D) ethylene glycol together with e.g. acetic anhydride, (2) acylating the compounds preferably at room temperature-320 deg.C and (3) carrying out the polymerization under reduced pressure at 250-320 deg.C while removing acetic acid from the product. The component D may be an oligomer with the component C, etc.

    Abstract: PURPOSE:To obtain the title optically anisotropic polyester which can give a molding excellent in moldability, heat resistance, rigidity and impact resistance, by reacting p-hydroxybenzoic acid with two specified aromatic polyesters. CONSTITUTION:A predetermined amount of p-hydroxybenzoic acid (A) is mixed with an aromatic polyester (B) obtained by reacting an aromatic diol (a) such as 4,4'-dihydroxybisphenol with an aromatic dicarboxylic acid (b) such as terephthalic acid and an aromatic polyester (C) (e.g., polyethylene terephthalate) obtained by reacting ethylene glycol (c) with component (b) each in a specified amount. The resulting mixture is polymerized through elimination of acetic acid to easily obtain the title polyester comprising 90-95 mol % total of structural units of formulas I and II (wherein R1 is a group of any one of formulas III-VI or the like, R1 is a group of formula III, IV or VII or the like) and 10-5 mol % structural units of formula VIII (wherein R3 is R2) in an amount equivalent to a I to II molar ratio of 75/25-95/5 and having a logarithmic viscosity of 0.5-5 dl/g (in pentafluorophenol in a 0.1 g/dl concentration at 60 deg.C).

    Abstract: PURPOSE:An aromatic copolyester capable of providing melt-molded products excellent in mechaical properties and optical anisotropy, comprising four kinds of residues derived from p-hydroxybenzoic acid, 4,4'-diphenyldicarboxylic acid, terephthalic acid and hydroquinone. CONSTITUTION:An aromatic copolyester containing structural units of formulasI-IV as essential constitutents, wherein the units of formulaIconstitute 30- 80mol% of the total, the molar ratio of formula II/formula III is 9/1-4/6, and the sum of formulas II and III is equimolar to formula IV. The structural unit of formulaIis a residue dervied by removing H and a hydroxyl group from p- hydroxy-benzoic acid, and the structural units of formulas II and III are residues derived by removing a hydroxyl group from each of 4,4'-diphenylcarboxylic acid and terephthalic acid, and the structural unit of formula IV is a residue derived by removing the terminal H from hydroquinone.
