Abstract:
A method for forming a helix rope for a trawl comprising the steps of: a) situating upon a portion of a rope a bead of a substance being selected from a group consisting of: (i) a liquid substance; and (ii) a semi-liquid substance. A helix rope (35) for forming portions of a pelagic trawl, the helix rope comprising a braided sheath (398) formed of greater than sixteen strands (397), whereby drag is reduced. A method for forming a high strength synthetic rope useful for towing warps, trawler warps, yachting ropes, mooring lines, anchoring lines, oil derrick anchoring lines, seismic lines, paravane lines, and any other uses for rope, cable or chain.
Abstract:
One aspect of this invention concerns a multi-strand steel wire rope (28, 32, 36, 46, 50) comprising multiple strands (3, 10, 38) laid up helically on a core (30, 34, ), characterised in that at least some of the strands are deep strands (10, 38), i.e. strands with a heightwidth ratio greater than unity. Another aspect of the invention concerns the deep strand (10, 38) itself.
Abstract:
Steel cord used as a reinforcement for a belt layer in pneumatic tires. The steel cord is manufactured by forming a plurality of bends per strand length equivalent to one twist pitch on a strand, which constitutes an outer layer sheath, with the strand length equivalent to one twist pitch being a cycle, twisting these strands while the bends belonging to the same phase are aligned in a cord axial direction, and subjecting cord side surfaces to compression processing. As a result, flat side surface portions are formed, in which a plurality of strands forming the outer layer sheath are positioned substantially in the same plane. The steel cord thus formed is used in reinforcement plies for pneumatic radial tires such that the reinforcement plies are laminated so that the flat side surface portions are mutually parallel. Accordingly, the distribution of shearing stress acting on rubber between the flat side surface portions of the steel cord is made uniform and rigidity of a tire per amount of steel cord used is enhanced. Therefore, it is possible to reduce a weight of the steel cord used per tire and improve fuel efficiency by mounting such pneumatic radial tires on a vehicle.

Abstract:
A strand for prestressing of concrete components, which strand (10) is made up of at least one central wire (4) and of a plurality of surface wires (1) twined around it, the central wire or wires running substantially without spiral in the longitudinal direction of the strand. The cross sectional area of the central wire (4) has been shaped so, or the strand (10) contains a plurality of central wires so located and dimensioned, that the envelope (6) of the cross section of the strand is made up of a combination of sections of two circles (Y1, Y2) of different radii (R1, R2) and is thus not rotationally symmetric.
Abstract:
A process of producing an eye in a rope (35), the process including the following steps: providing a strength member core (37) of the rope and further comprising the steps of: (a) situating a removable elongate object adjacent to at least a portion of the strength member core (37) of the rope; (b) subsequently covering the strength member core (37) of the rope and the removable elongate object with at least a portion of a braided sheath (398) formed of strands (397); (c) attaching to the removable elongate object a portion of a structure formed of the same strands (397) that form the at least a portion of the braided sheath (398); and (d) subsequently removing the removable elongate object from the braided sheath (398) so as to cause the portion of the structure attached to the removable elongate object to be drawn into at least a portion of the space within the braided sheath (398) enclosing the at least a portion of the strength member core (37) of the rope that was originally occupied by the removable elongate object, whereby a rope portion with an eye which a mainly coverbraided is economically produced. Also disclosed is a rope portion obtained with said process and a trawl including such a rope portion. Furthermore a trawl comprising a coverbraided rope sling / grommet, where the respective eye is free of any strand forming the braided jacket of the rope portion is disclosed.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a unit for producing an assembly (A) of filiform elements (14) wound together in a spiral, comprising: means (16) for twisting at least first and second filiform elements (14), arranged such as to twist the first and second filiform elements (14) separately from one another; means (18) for preforming at least the first and second twisted filiform elements (14) in a spiral, arranged downstream of the twisting means such as to preform the first and second twisted filiform elements (14) separately from one another; and means (20) for assembling at least the first and second preformed and twisted filiform elements (14), arranged downstream of the preforming means such as to form the assembly (A) of filiform elements (14).
Abstract:
An elevator includes an elevator car, a counterweight and suspension roping, which connects the elevator car and counterweight to each other, and which suspension roping includes one or more ropes, which include a load-bearing composite part, which includes reinforcing fibers in a polymer matrix. The elevator car and the counterweight are arranged to be moved by exerting a vertical force on at least the elevator car or on the counterweight. The elevator includes a device separate from the suspension roping for exerting the force on at least the elevator car or on the counterweight.
