Abstract:
A system for transferring power and/or data between a host and a store over a single-wire umbilical cable is herein described. The system comprises a host-store interface configured to allow the transfer of both power and data between the host and a store in operative communication therewith. The store comprises a microcontroller and memory operatively coupled thereto, allowing the microcontroller to be powered on and to receive and store data sent by the host in its memory through a single-wire without requiring additional electronic systems that the store may comprise to also be powered on. This data may later be incorporated into pre-programmed systems onboard the store at full power-on, thereby enabling the reprogramming of the store without powering it on prior to launch.
Abstract:
Systems are disclosed for navigating a missile to a target using a fixed sensor onboard the missile. In an embodiment, a system includes a launch platform traveling a pre-programmed route to deliver the missile within an area. The missile travels a first flight path through the area in effort to detect targets. If no targets are detected along the first flight path, the missile transitions to a second flight path, different from the first flight path, to locate targets off-axis relative to the first flight path. While the missile travels the second flight path, the sensor receives signal identifying a target located at a position off-axis relative to the first flight path. The missile then adjusts the second flight path to direct the missile to the target. In an example embodiment, the first flight path is straight or arced, while the second flight path is u-shaped, corkscrew-shaped, or spiral-shaped.
Abstract:
Techniques are provided for implementing a portable spectrum analyzer. An example system, according to an embodiment, includes a signal analyzer including an RF receiver to receive RF signals from an antenna, an analog-to-digital converter to generate a sampled signal based on the received RF signals, and a signal analysis co-processor to perform cognitive scanning analysis of the sampled signal. The cognitive scanning analysis includes detection, identification, and characterization of digital/analog signal(s) embedded in the sampled signal. The system may further include a communications interface circuit to provide communication between the signal analyzer and an associated mobile host platform (e.g., smartphone). The communication includes transmitting results of the cognitive scanning analysis to the mobile host and receiving parameters from the mobile host to control the operation of the cognitive scanning analysis. The signal analyzer and mobile host are coupled through a shared enclosure such as a hinged case, sleeve, or wallet.
Abstract:
The system and method of pupil size independent pupillometry used for assessing critical diagnostic characteristics relating to neurotransmission and neuroactivity as applied to toxin exposure. The system and method utilizes the timing of a response to stimuli for a pupil of an individual, characterizes the timed responses, determines the latency of the timed responses, measures the minimum constriction value for the timed responses; and assesses the timed responses collected to diagnose changes in neurotransmission and neuroactivity for an individual exposed to organophosphate (OP) nerve agents or botulinum toxin (BTX).
Abstract:
A counter measure system is provided having a unitary infrared transparent dome including a look angle greater than 180. The dome has two hemispherical regions, with a second region having a truncated bottom end defining an opening to a central cavity inside which electro-optical elements are disposed. The electro-optical elements can view outward through the dome at the look angle. The second region on the dome has a complementary curvature as the first region by continuing a similar radius beyond a transverse horizontal axis or equator. The dome is mounted to a base, which also may be referred to as a bezel. The base defines a rabbet extending circumferentially about the base imaginary center defining an aperture. The base and the dome are formed from different materials but have equivalent coefficients of thermal expansion. In one embodiment the dome if formed from sapphire and the base is titanium.
Abstract:
The present invention is a method for constructing a knowledgebase that can provide analysis and trend prediction of emerging technologies. Metadata and full text are gathered from collections of documents, which can include more than 10 million documents, and are used to build a heterogeneous network of elements related to themes such as technical emergence. Indicators and models are selected that identify network characteristics and trends of interest. The indicators can be derived by applying a combination of citation analyses, natural language processing, entity disambiguation, organization classification, and time series analyses. A metric can be used to evaluate indicator utility. A framework can be sued to generate and validate the indicators. The models can be derived using an automated process. Upon receipt of a query, the indicators and models can be used to apply a scoring process to extracted features to predict a future prominence of an entity.
Abstract:
A system and method use tunnelizing for analyzing frequency spectrum. The method may include the steps of under sampling an input signal to take samples in one or more tunnels each with a tunnel bandwidth that is equal to or less than a total analysis bandwidth of the input signal; detecting one or more cyclostationary features of the input signal based on the samples; and determining one or more signal types of the one or more cyclostationary features based on the one or more cyclostationary features.
Abstract:
A laser range finder (LRF) and an automated method for determining a return laser signal associated with a target thereof are disclosed. In one example embodiment, the LRF includes a laser beam emitter to emit a laser beam towards a target. Further, the LRF includes a receiver circuit to receive multiple return laser signals reflected from objects including the target and to determine an amplitude of each of the multiple return laser signals. Furthermore, the LRF includes a processor coupled to the receiver circuit to compare the amplitude of each of the multiple return laser signals with a range varying threshold that accounts for range and atmospheric losses and to determine one of the multiple return laser signals as being associated with the target based on the comparison.
Abstract:
A system and method for passing a fiber cable through a fiber connector is presented. A fiber connector includes an outer body and a series of flutes inside the outer body. The outer body forms an interior chamber that has a first opening and a second opening. The first opening allows a coolant to flow into the first opening and the first and second openings allow the fiber cable to pass through the first opening and the second opening and through the fiber connector. A series of flutes are attached to an inner surface of the outer body and extend into the interior chamber. The flutes are spaced apart from each other and extend from the inner surface toward the fiber cable but do not touch the fiber cable when no liquid is flowing in the fiber connector.
Abstract:
A detachable high powered electronic module of a high powered electronic system capable of receiving high power is disclosed. In one embodiment, the detachable high powered electronic includes a sub-array of the high powered electronic module, a heat exchanger assembly, a power converter module, and a mechanical interface. The mechanical interface is configured to detachably couple the sub-array and the power converter module via the heat exchanger assembly. Further, the detachable sub-array assembly is configured to deliver power received from the power converter module to the sub-array and also to substantially simultaneously extract heat away from the detachable sub-array.
