Abstract:
According to the invention there is provided a method of reducing wear of one or both of two steel elements having surfaces in sliding or sliding-rolling contact. The method involves applying an HPF friction control composition to one, or more than one contacting surface of one or both of the two steel elements. In a particular example, the HPF friction control composition comprises a rheological control agent, a lubricant, a friction modifier, and one, or more than one of a retentivity agent, an antioxidant, a consistency modifier, and a freezing point depressant.
Abstract:
The invention involves a composition for forming a combined conversion and lubricating coating on a metal substrate with which the composition is brought into contact. The composition comprises (a) an oxyethylated aliphatic alcohol whose aliphatic hydrocarbon moiety contains 18 or more carbon atoms and (b) dissolved phosphate anions. Preferably the composition also comprises inorganic boron, an alkali metal salt of a fatty acid, and an accelerator for phosphate coating.
Abstract:
An open gear lubricant has a lubricant base comprising a major amount of a vegetable oil and a minor amount of a solid inorganic lubricant, thickened with a bidegradable organoclay gellant.

Thus, the instant invention is directed toward an oil for diesel engines comprising an admixture of (A) a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity, (B) at least 4 mass % dispersant, (C) at least 0.3 mass % of a metal phenate, (D) less than 0.1 mass % friction modifier, (E) less than 0.3 mass % of sulfurized phenols and, (F) less than 0.12 mass % neutral calcium sulfonate.
Abstract:
A combination of sulfur-free azoles, preferably benzotriazole and tolyltriazole, with sulfur-containing azoles, preferably 2-mercaptobenzothiazole or mercaptobenzimidazole, prevents discoloration, staining, or corrosion of metal surfaces being coated with an organic protective coating from aqueous dispersion or solution.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a sintered friction material for the production of friction-linked components, in particular synchronising rings, and a friction-linked component, especially a synchronising ring, with such a sintered friction material. To obatin a good friction gradient, the proposal is for a sintered friction material containing an iron-based matrix and a solid lubricant which contains 0.5 to 10 wt % of molybdenum in relation to the matrix and 20 to 50 vol % of graphite as the solid lubricant. The friction-linked component, especially a synchronising ring, has a support and a friction coating of the friction material described above, while in an embodiment of the invention, trapezoidal grooves are made on the friction surface.
Abstract:
A lubrication block, with or without a cavity, or a lubrication bag, for lubricating an ID surface of a tyre and an OD surface of a plurality of pads of rotary trunnion supported equipment, such as a kiln, cooler, dryer, reactor, granulator and ball mill operating at temperatures from 100 DEG F to 500 DEG F or higher. The tyre has inner and outer faces, and the inner face of the tyre is slipped over the plurality of pads or filler bars welded to an outer shell of the rotary equipment. The lubrication block or bag is sized so as to be inserted in between the pads. The lubrication block comprises a lubricant and a solid carrier for said lubricant. The carrier is selected from the group consisting of waxes such as paraffin, polymers, copolymers such as ethylene or polyethylene glycol or mixtures thereof, and the lubricant comprises powdered carbon and a soft metal powder (e.g. copper, zinc, aluminum) or a noble metal powder (e.g. silver, copper). The lubrication bag contains a lubricant like the lubrication block and is made of a material selected from the group consisting of plastic materials such as polymers, copolymers or mixtures thereof. The carrier or the material of the bag melts and vaporizes at the temperature of the tyre, leaving very little harmful residue on the tyre except for the powdered carbon, the soft metal powders and the noble metal powders. In this way, the powdered carbon and the metal powders are capable of lubricating the ID surface of the tyre uniformly, without having to use messy hoses, pumps, or kegs containing the lubricant, in order to apply the lubricant to the ID surface of the tyre.
Abstract:
A method of protecting organic materials such as oils, fats and polymeric materials, which are subjected to oxidation or other degrading influence from external factors such as heat or other radiation as well as electric or magnetic fields, whereby essentially globular or tubular carbon molecules, so-called fullerenes, or derivatives based on said carbon molecules, are added to the organic material.
Abstract:
A lubricating composition contains the following ratio of components in per cent by weight: a carbon additive 0.01-8.0, mineral oil the balance where the carbon additive consists of 18-38 % by weight of diamond with the size of the particles of 40-120 ANGSTROM and 62-82 % by weight of graphite with the size of the particles of 200-1000 ANGSTROM . It may also contain a non-ionogenic surface-active substance in the quantity of 0.01-8.0 % by weight. The invention can be used as oil, lubricant grease and technological lubricant.
