    Abstract: The optical absorption loss of the optical waveguide and the signal propagation loss of the high-frequency signal electrode are both reduced at a plurality of intersections between the convex optical waveguide and the high-frequency signal electrode, thereby achieving good operating characteristics. An optical waveguide device includes a substrate on which optical waveguides are formed, and an electrode that is formed on the substrate and has intersections crossing over the optical waveguides, in which the optical waveguides are configured by protruding portions extending on the substrate, and an intermediate layer made of a resin is provided at the adjacent intersections along the electrode to fill spaces between the protruding portions along the electrode and covers top of the protruding portions.

    Abstract: An optical device is described. The optical device includes a waveguide, a first engineered electrode, and a second engineered electrode. The waveguide includes at optical material(s) having an electro-optic effect. The optical material(s) include lithium. A portion of the waveguide has a waveguide width. The first engineered electrode includes a first channel region and first extensions protruding from the first channel region. The first extensions are closer to the portion of the waveguide than the first channel region is. The second engineered electrode includes a second channel region and second extensions protruding from the second channel region. The second extensions are closer to the portion of the waveguide than the second channel region is. A first extension of the first extensions is a distance from a second extension of the second \extensions. The distance is less than the waveguide width.

    Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a method comprising the following steps: a) forming a waveguide from a first material, the waveguide being configured to guide an optical signal; b) forming a layer made of a second material that is electrically conductive and transparent to a wavelength of the optical signal, steps a) and b) being implemented such that the layer made of the second material is in contact with at least one of the faces of the waveguide, or is separated from the at least one of the faces by a distance of less than half, preferably less than a quarter, of the wavelength of the optical signal. The application further relates to a phase modulator, in particular obtained by such a method.
