Abstract:
This document describes biochemical pathways for producing pimelic acid, 7-aminoheptanoic acid, 7-hydroxyheptanoic acid, heptamethylenediamine or 1,7-heptanediol by forming two terminal functional groups, comprised of carboxyl, amine or hydroxyl group, in a C7 aliphatic backbone substrate. These pathways, metabolic engineering and cultivation strategies described herein rely on the fatty acid synthesis pathway and oxidative cleavage of long chain acyl-[acp] intermediates by a monooxgenase (e.g., cytochrome P450) such as that encoded by BioI from microorganisms such as Bacillus subtillis.
Abstract:
A flow straightener is disclosed for a hydrogen cyanide reaction process that maintains a substantially uniform velocity profile to provide a plug flow with reduced flow rotation within a mixing vessel. This results in improved performance and production of hydrogen cyanide.
Abstract:
The system and methods described herein solve problems of inaccurate flow control, loss of optimum reactant gas feed ratios, and the associated inefficiencies brought on by variable humidity in reactant feedstream gases during production of hydrogen cyanide by an Andrussow process.
Abstract:
The present invention provides an improved process and apparatus for alkanolysis of polytetramethylene ether diacetate to polytetraalkylene ether glycol in the presence of a C1 to C4 alkanol and an alkali or alkaline earth metal catalyst wherein the catalyst component of the product mixture comprising polytetraalkylene ether glycol, alkanol and catalyst, essentially free of the alkanol acetate by-product, e.g., methyl acetate is removed by contacting the mixture in the absence of added water with certain ion exchange resin at specified contact conditions. The invention further provides a highly efficient method for removing the catalyst component of a mixture comprising polytetraalkylene ether glycol, alkanol and alkali or alkaline earth metal catalyst by contacting the mixture in the absence of added water with certain ion exchange resin at specified contact conditions,
Abstract:
Provided is a process for producing a nylon polymer comprising the steps of contacting an omega-terminal fatty acid or fatty acid ester with a pentenenitrile to produce a nitrile-functionalized unsaturated fatty acid or fatty acid ester, hydrogenating the nitrile-functionalized unsaturated fatty acid or fatty acid ester with hydrogen in the presence of a hydrogenation catalyst to produce a saturated amino acid and subjecting the saturated amino acid to polyamidation conditions to provide a nylon polymer.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a novel polyurethane, copolyether ester or copolyether amide elastomer composition comprising a glycol derived from random copolymerization of alkylene oxide and tetrahydrofuran (THF), the alkylene oxide having from 2 to 4 carbon atoms, i.e., poly(tetramethylene-co-alkyleneether) glycol.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to a method for the hydrocyanation of organic ethylenically unsaturated compounds including at least one nitrile function. The invention specifically relates to a method for the hydrocyanation of a hydrocarbon compound including at least one ethylenic unsaturation by a reaction with hydrogen cyanide in a liquid medium and in the presence of a catalyst including a metal element selected from the transition metals and an organophosphorous ligand, the organophosphorous ligand including a compound of general formula (I), where R 1 and R 2 , which are identical or different, are a linear or branched alkyl radical having 1-12 carbon atoms, which can include heteroatoms, or an optionally substituted aromatic or cycloaliphatic radical that can include heteroatoms, wherein the covalent bond between P and R 1 , and that between P and R 2 , are P-C bonds.
