Abstract:
A carry-save adder for use in a binary multiplier with a reduced number of full adder stages. The carry-save adder is summing columns of binary data and is implemented with a plurality of one-bit (30) and two-bit (60) full adders. The one-bit (30) and two-bit (60) full adders are configured in a plurality of interconnected modified Wallace-Tree adders, each Wallace-Tree adder for summing binary data bits from one or more columns and generating a partial sum (74) and a partial carry (76). Each modified Wallace-Tree adder has a plurality of stages (70, 110, 130, 150) comprising one-bit (30) and two-bit (60) full adders for reducing the number of the binary data bits, the last stage (36, 122, 142, 162) comprising a single one-bit full adder (36, 122, 142, 162) for generating the partial sum (74) and the partial carry results (76). A plurality of conductors interconnects the stages of each modified Wallace-Tree adder with stages in the same Wallace-Tree adder and with stages in other modified Wallace-Tree adders.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a CDMA receiver which uses less expensive, more manufacturable digital filters in combination with noise cancellation circuitry to attenuate highly correlated signals. In addition, the CDMA receiver employs digital IF sampling in the baseband conversion process to remove superimposed DC voltages from the baseband data, obviating the need for DC offset voltage generators.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus are disclosed for monitoring television viewing activity to determine preferred categories of programming and preferred channels of a viewer. To facilitate viewer access to preferred programming, the display of an electronic program guide may be configured in accordance with the monitored viewing activity to provide fast access to the preferred programming. The monitored viewing activity may also be used to provide a lock-out feature to prevent or limit the viewing of specified channels or categories of programming, or to identify and provide information of interest from the internet. In yet another embodiment of the invention, a viewer may automatically circulate through his or her preferred programming, as determined by monitoring the viewing activity of that viewer.
Abstract:
PURPOSE: To correct focus errors by providing a lens making reflected light beams turn into a first direction and first photodetectors arranged in positions for receiving at least a part of the reflected light beams. CONSTITUTION: The photodetectors 52 and 54 generate output proportional to light quantity radiated on the photodetectors. The output is processed by a circuit means 56 and a focus error signal is generated. Then, a tracking error signal is generated. The circuit means 56 is connected to a close positioning actuator 36 and the close positioning actuator 36 positions an objective lens 32 so that the beams are appropriately focused on the surface 42 of a disk 34 or they are arranged on the disk 34 in a line with data tracks by using the focus error signal and the tracking error signal.
Abstract:
An underlayer (8A) of a magnetic recording medium (16) includes first and second non-magnetic, chromium-based layers (18, 20), at least one of the first and second chromium-based layers being a chromium alloy. The lattice parameter of the composite underlayer is between the lattice parameters of the first and second chromium-based layers. Recognizing this permits one to predictably adjust the lattice parameter of the composite underlayer to be close to the lattice parameter of the magnetic layer (10) so to optimize magnetic and parametric properties.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus are disclosed for monitoring television viewing activity to determine preferred categories of programming (208) and channels of a viewer (202). To facilitate viewer access to preferred programming, the display of an electronic program guide (200) may be configured in accordance with the monitored viewing activity (204, 206) to provide fast access to preferred programming. The monitored viewing activity may also be used to provide a lock-out feature to prevent or limit the viewing of specific channels or categories of programming, or to identify and provide information of interest from the Internet. In yet another embodiment of the invention, a viewer may automatically circulate through his or her preferred programming, as is determined by monitoring the viewing activity of that viewer.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus are disclosed for locating desired television programs and categories of television programs. To facilitate viewer access to preferred programming as a mini program guide display (102), program guide information of an electronic program guide may be searched in accordance with viewer-specified or system default parameters. Viewer-specified parameters illustratively include program names filed (202), partial program names, categories of programming (204), and subcategories field (206) of programming. Once the search is complete, a primary television means (100) is provided for displaying information on television programs in the categories, or with titles, that match the television program titles or categories of interest.
Abstract:
A circuit (1) is provided which contains memory (2), logic, arithmetic and control circuitry needed to generate all or part of a frame for use in video processing and animation as well as digital signal and image processing. One or more such circuits are provided on an integrated circuit (1). A video or image frame generation system is constructed from one or more of these integrated circuits, optionally with additional memory circuitry, to provide exceptional performance in frame production for animation, particularly 3-D and other high performance applications such as medical imaging, virtual reality and real-time scene generation in video games and simulation environments. The circuit(s) are used to process high speed object-oriented graphics related streams such as proposed by MPEG 4, as well as act as a single chip JAVA engine with highly optimized numeric performance.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus coupled to broadcast signals, such as television signals, and a television set (16) for displaying broadcast programs and channels. The apparatus displays broadcast programs on selected channels to a viewer, marks one or more of the programs in response to a first signal from the viewer, marks one or more of the channels in response to a second signal from the viewer, stores signals corresponding to the marked programs and channels; and sequentially displays the marked programs and channels in response to a third signal from the viewer. The apparatus displays a plurality of icons (51-58) on the screen, sequentially moves an icon cursor (42) from one icon to another icon in response to a first signal from a television viewer to point to one icon at a time, and displays text associated with the pointed icon only.
Abstract:
An intuitively operated Electronic Program Guide (EPG) which presents program guide information in table form at two levels of resolution. Schedule information is presented in icon form (500) over a long time window while textual information (510) is presented for a viewer-selected time slot. The selected time slot may appear to be a magnified representation (512) of the long time window view. In this way, a television screen of conventional resolution may present at least five hours of schedule information for eight channels. The viewer may operate the Electronic Program Guide (EPG) intuitively with simple remote control commands.
