    Abstract: PURPOSE: Provided are a bio-active ceramics and a metallic implant used in surgical and dental applications coated with the ceramics in order to increase bio-affinity to a subject having the implant. CONSTITUTION: The bio-active ceramics comprises 40-49 wt.% of CaO, 40-49 wt.% of silica(SiO2) and 2-20 wt.% of B2O3. The process for producing the metallic implant comprises steps of preparing the bio-active ceramic by fusing raw material consisting of CaO, SiO2, B2O3 and quenching the fused material; grinding the frozen material into powders having less than 10 micrometer size; preparing slurry by adding aqueous or organic solvents and a binder; applying the slurry to a metallic implant by means of brush; and sintering the coated implant at 700-950 deg.C.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: Provided is a simple manufacturing method of porous ceramics with high porosity, strength and softness by using the composition containing self-foaming inorganic constituents instead of adding a gas-foaming polymer through conventional ceramic process. CONSTITUTION: The self-foaming type porous ceramic composition contains calcium oxide(CaO), silica(SiO2), and borate(B2O3) self-foamed automatically at high temperature in a molar ratio of 43-47 : 43-47 : 6-14. The porous ceramics are manufactured by preparing glass comprising the above components, grinding into a size of 1-10micrometer, forming and thermal treating at 950-1200deg.C. The resultant ceramics are applied to heat insulating materials, catalyst carriers and artificial bones.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: A bioabsorbable type bioactive glass-ceramic and a preparation method thereof are provided to control the biodegradable speed according to the formulation ratio of glass-ceramics while maintaining the bioactivity. CONSTITUTION: The bioabsorbable type bioactive glass-ceramic comprises 41.4 to 45.75 wt.% of CaO, 35.0 to 47.62 wt.% of SiO2, 1.62 to 14.58 wt.% of P2O5, 0.5 to 14.58 wt.% of B2O3, 0.46 to 4.14 wt.% of MgO, and 0.05 to 0.45 wt.% of CaF2. The bioabsorbable type bioactive glass-ceramic is composed of the first glass and the second glass in a weight ratio of 90:10 to 10:90. The first glass comprises 41.03 to 45.86 wt.% of CaO, 43.97 to 49.14 wt.% of SiO2, and 5 to 15 wt.% of B2O3. The second glass comprises 44.7 wt.% of CaO, 44.7 wt.% of MgO, 34.0 wt.% of SiO2, 16.2 wt.% of P2O5, and 0.5 wt.% of CaF2.
