    Abstract: PURPOSE: Provided are a bio-active ceramics and a metallic implant used in surgical and dental applications coated with the ceramics in order to increase bio-affinity to a subject having the implant. CONSTITUTION: The bio-active ceramics comprises 40-49 wt.% of CaO, 40-49 wt.% of silica(SiO2) and 2-20 wt.% of B2O3. The process for producing the metallic implant comprises steps of preparing the bio-active ceramic by fusing raw material consisting of CaO, SiO2, B2O3 and quenching the fused material; grinding the frozen material into powders having less than 10 micrometer size; preparing slurry by adding aqueous or organic solvents and a binder; applying the slurry to a metallic implant by means of brush; and sintering the coated implant at 700-950 deg.C.

    Abstract: A bioactive biphasic ceramic composition combining apatite and wollastonite is disclosed, in order to solve the defect of apatite ceramic that has poor bioactivity though it is excellent in biocompatibility, which has improved bioactivity, as compared to monophasic ceramics of apatite or wollastonite. The ceramic composition is produced by steps of: providing a composition including powders of apatite of formula Ca10(PO4)6X, in which X is any one of O, (OH)2, CO3, F2 and Cl2, and wollastonite (CaSiO3) in a weight ratio of 5:95 to 90:10, forming the composition into a desired body by press or forming the composition into a porous body, and sintering the formed body.

    Abstract: PURPOSE: An artificial bone filler using calcium phosphate based compounds and a preparation method are provided to have not only the high bone fusion rate and tensile strength, but also the relatively high bio-absorbency. CONSTITUTION: The artificial bone filler is prepared by: formulating at least one selected from the group consisting of magnesium oxide(MgO), calcium pyrophosphate substituted by Mg(Ca2-XMgXP2O7), magnesium pyrophosphate(Mg2P2O7) and calcium magnesium pyrophosphate(CaMg2P2O7), and calcium pyrophosphate powders selected from the group consisting of calcium pyrophosphate(Ca2P2O7) or not more than 10 wt.% of tricalcium phosphate(Ca3(PO4)2); press-forming the compounds to a porous body; and sintering it at the temperature of 1000 to 1200 deg.C.
