Abstract: PURPOSE: An electric vehicle cooling system and an operation method thereof are provided to prevent the durability deterioration of an electric water pump by temporarily stopping the operation of a system when exceeding the acceptable standards of a normal operation through the self-diagnosis of the electric water pump. CONSTITUTION: An electric vehicle cooling system comprises an electric power plant(1), a radiator(5), an electric water pump(7), a cooling water line(8), and a cooling system protection unit. The electric power plant exchanges heat with the cooling water which passes the inside in order to prevent overheating. The radiator exchanges the heat of the high temperature cooling water with the outside. The electric water pump pumps the cooling water out of a reservoir(6) which is connected to the radiator for discharging the cooling water to the electric power plant. The cooling water line forms the flowing route of the cooling water which circulates through the operation of the electric water pump. The cooling system protection unit performs self-diagnosis logic for repeating the temporary stop mode of the electric water pump when the self-diagnosis result safely exceeds a predetermined level or stopping the operation of the electric water pump when the self-diagnosis result unsafely exceeds the predetermined level.
