Abstract: A method is performed at an electronic device with a display, a touch-sensitive surface, and one or more sensors to detect intensity of contacts. The method includes displaying, on the display, a user interface for an application; detecting an edge input that includes detecting a change in a characteristic intensity of a contact proximate to an edge of the touch-sensitive surface; and, in response to detecting the edge input: in accordance with a determination that the edge input meets system-gesture criteria, performing an operation that is independent of the application, wherein: the system-gesture criteria include intensity criteria; the system gesture criteria include a location criterion that is met when the intensity criteria for the contact are met while the contact is within a first region relative to the touch-sensitive surface; and the first region relative to the touch-sensitive surface is determined based on one or more characteristics of the contact.

Abstract: An application launching user interface that includes a plurality of application icons for launching corresponding applications is displayed. A first touch input is detected on a first application icon of the plurality of application icons. The first application icon is for launching a first application that is associated with one or more corresponding quick actions. If the first touch input meets one or more application-launch criteria which require that the first touch input has ended without having met a first input threshold, the first application is launched in response to the first touch input. If the first touch input meets one or more quick-action-display criteria which require that the first touch input meets the first input threshold, one or more quick action objects associated with the first application are concurrently displayed along with the first application icon without launching the first application, in response to the first touch input.

Abstract: An electronic device, while displaying on a touch-sensitive display a user interface for an application, detects an edge input comprising a contact on the touch-sensitive display, and in response to detecting the edge input, in accordance with a determination that the edge input meets first criteria, performing an operation that is independent of whether the application is a first application or a second application different from the first application. The first criteria include intensity criteria that are met when a characteristic intensity of the contact exceeds a first intensity threshold, and include a location criterion that is met when the intensity criteria for the contact are met while the contact is within a first region relative to the touch-sensitive display. If the edge input meets second criteria and does not meet the first criteria, the electronic device performs a respective operation in the application.
