    Abstract: The functions of user equipment (UE), radio access network (RAN) devices, and core network (CN) devices in circumstances where a UE is expected to experience discontinuous coverage are described herein. A UE may send a CN a non-access stratum (NAS) message including a release request indicating that a UE is leaving coverage and assistance information. The CN may interrupt paging of the UE and resume the paging according to the assistance information. A UE may enter a low power usage mode upon leaving coverage, and may use one or more timers to determine when to check for coverage and send a mobility update message corresponding to the low power usage mode. A base station may receive, from a UE, a radio resource control (RRC) message comprising a release request and assistance information, send an RRC release message to the UE in response, and forward the assistance information to the CN.

    Abstract: Apparatuses, systems, and methods for a network node to inter-connect with a first secondary node (SN) within a core network. The network node may be a master node and may serve a UE. The first SN may be a source SN. The network node may initiate a change from the first SN to a second SN, which may be a target SN. The network mode may determine data forwarding from the first SN to the second SN and may request, from the first SN, data forwarding intentions prior to initiating the change from the first SN to the second SN. The network node may send, to the first SN, data forwarding instructions (e.g., based, at least in part, on the data forwarding intentions of the first SN) and the data forwarding instructions may include a requirement for the first SN to follow the data forwarding instructions.

    Abstract: One embodiment described herein takes the form of a user equipment (UE), such as a phone. The UE includes a transceiver and a processor. The processor is configured to associate with a secondary UE for collaborative transmission of a data payload of one of the UE or the secondary UE to a base station. The processor is configured to determine a link quality with the base station or the secondary UE, and determine a location of the UE or the secondary UE while associated with the secondary UE. The processor is configured to transmit to the base station or the secondary UE at least the determined link quality or the determined location, and determine to maintain, re-establish, or disable the association with the secondary UE based on at least one of a number of factors including: the determined link quality, the determined location, or an indication received from the base station.

    Abstract: A computer that establishes a first registration and a second registration in a common wireless communication system is described. During operation, the computer performs a first registration of the user equipment over a first access, where, after the first registration, the user equipment is connected via the first access with a first access and mobility management function (AMF). Then, the computer performs a second registration of the user equipment over a second access, where the second access is different from the first access and, after the second registration, the user equipment is connected via the second access with a second AMF. Moreover, when performing the second registration, the computer: transfers a context of the user equipment from the first AMF to the second AMF; and/or relocates a network interface in a control plane from the first AMF to the second AMF.
