Abstract: A user equipment (UE) configured to connect to an edge data network. The UE connects to a first edge application server (EAS) of an edge data network (EDN), the connecting comprising performing a first authorization/authentication procedure, receives a message indicating the UE is to connect to a second EAS of the EDN, the message including an indication as to whether the UE is to perform a second authorization/authentication procedure to connect to the second EAS and performs a discovery procedure to locate the second EAS based on at least the indication in the message.

Abstract: A computer that establishes a first registration and a second registration in a common wireless communication system is described. During operation, the computer performs a first registration of the user equipment over a first access, where, after the first registration, the user equipment is connected via the first access with a first access and mobility management function (AMF). Then, the computer performs a second registration of the user equipment over a second access, where the second access is different from the first access and, after the second registration, the user equipment is connected via the second access with a second AMF. Moreover, when performing the second registration, the computer: transfers a context of the user equipment from the first AMF to the second AMF; and/or relocates a network interface in a control plane from the first AMF to the second AMF.

Abstract: A user equipment (UE) or other device performs service discovery of edge computing resources in a cellular network system and dynamic offloading of UE application tasks to discovered edge computing resources. As part of the discovery process, the device (e.g., the UE) may request edge server site capability information. When performing dynamic offloading, the UE may obtain (collect and/or receive) information regarding channel conditions, cellular network parameters or application requirements and dynamically determine whether a task of the application executing on the UE should be offloaded to an edge server or executed locally on the UE. In making decisions between offloaded or local execution, the UE may use a utility function that takes into account factors such as relative differences in application latency, energy consumption and offloading cost.

The apparatus can include a memory to store the list of NPN-IDs and PLMN-IDs as a logical list of Equivalent Home Networks or as Operator Controlled Network Selector with Access Technology list.

A described technique performed by a radio access network (RAN) includes managing a UE that is in an extended discontinuous reception mode and in an inactive state; sending a notification message to an access and mobility management function (AMF), the message comprising buffer support information for a user plane function (UPF) to buffer data; receiving a notification request message from the AMF, the notification request message comprising a request to obtain information regarding reachability of the UE; sending a notification response message to control when the UPF provides downlink data to the RAN for transmission to the UE; performing a connection resume procedure with the UE to cause the UE to switch to a connected state from the inactive state; receiving the downlink data; and transmitting the downlink data to the UE.

Abstract: Techniques are provided for managing the provisioning of voice services to a user equipment (UE) in a fifth generation (5G) network. For example, the UE generates a registration request message that includes 5G mobility management (5GMM) capabilities of the UE that are indicative of whether the UE supports voice over internet protocol multimedia subsystem (IMS), and transmits the registration request message to a next generation radio acess network (NGRAN) node in the 5G wireless network. Based on the 5GMM capabilities, the NG-RAN node can determine whether voice over IMS can be provided to UE by comparing the 5GMM capabilities to capabilities of the NG-RAN node.

Abstract: A network device (e.g., a user equipment (UE), a new radio NB (gNB), or other network component) can process or generate a one-step paging reception or a two-step paging reception based on being in a sub-state of an idle mode. A UE can enter into an idle state to enable a decreased power consumption of battery, and further reduce power consumption by only monitoring a PDCCH in response to operating in a camped on any cell state, and eliminate processing a paging message when in the camped on any cell state.
