Abstract:
This disclosure relates to dynamic baseband management for a wireless device. The wireless device may be an accessory device. The accessory device may determine whether it has a short-range wireless communication link with a companion device. The accessory device may determine one or more proximity metrics relating to the companion device. The accessory device may further determine one or more metrics associated with user settings, user activity and/or application activity at the wireless device. The wireless device may select a (e.g., full, limited, or off) baseband operating mode based on any or all of these considerations.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus to manage communication sessions to handover between a direct connection at a secondary wireless device and a relayed connection to the secondary wireless device via a primary wireless device. A connection manager of a secondary wireless device can trigger transfer of a communication session based on measurements of performance metrics for the communication session. Upon detection of performance degradation in a local connection or a backhaul connection or both, the connection manager of the secondary wireless device can determine proximity of and/or capabilities for connections of the primary wireless device and instigate transfer of the communication session between different connection types, such as between a direct connection and a relayed connection. The transfer of the communication session can occur without user intervention or in response to input from the user without interrupting or reestablishing the communication session.
Abstract:
A client device and a host device may create a local connection for providing wide area network access, such as Internet access, to the client device. In some embodiments, the client device may have limited network capabilities and may not be able to access the Internet without the host device. The client device may provide its speed and direction in a message to potential host devices. A host device may calculate a suitability metric, based on the speed and direction of the client as well as connection properties of the networks, which indicates an ability for the host device to connect the client device to the Internet. The host device may provide the suitablity metric within a connection reqeust to the client device. Based on the suitabiltiy metric and/or other factors, the client device and the host device may establish the local connection.
Abstract:
Device-to-device (D2D) communications in conjunction with carrier aggregation. A base station (BS) may coordinate D2D communication between two wireless user equipment (UE) devices. A primary cell may be configured for communicating with each of the UEs. A secondary cell may be configured for D2D communication between the two UEs. The primary cell and the secondary cell may utilize different component carriers. Additionally, cross-carrier scheduling may be used, such that at least some control information for the secondary cell is communicated via the primary cell.
Abstract:
Described herein are systems and methods to enhance radio link performance in a multi-carrier environment. A method may comprise sending, by an upper level layer of a wireless device, user data in a packet for transmission, wherein the packet includes an indication of a level of priority of the packet, receiving, by a media access control ("MAC") layer of the wireless device, the packet for transmission including the indication of the level of priority provided by the upper level layer, identifying, by the MAC layer, a reliability of each of a plurality of component carriers, and selecting, by the MAC layer, one of the component carriers on which to transmit the packet, wherein the selecting is based on the level of priority of the packet and the reliability of the one of the component carriers.
Abstract:
Embodiments described herein relate to managing access to 5G cellular baseband resources for 5G-capable wireless devices. A wireless device can monitor application workloads by analyzing communication network performance requirements for a given application in-use or launching for future use along with system-level indications of overall device usage, battery level, and mobility status to determine whether access to 5G cellular baseband resources is recommended for an application. A 5G cellular baseband resource recommendation is provided for an application indicating a level of bandwidth in current use or expected for future use as well as a confidence metric in the bandwidth level indication. The 5G cellular baseband resource recommendation is used with additional device criteria to determine whether access to one or more 5G radio frequency bands is allowed.

Abstract:
This disclosure relates to techniques for adaptive C-DRX Management. A wireless device and a cellular base station may establish a cellular link. According to some embodiments, the base station may monitor upcoming traffic with the wireless device. Based at least in part on the upcoming traffic for the wireless device, the base station may provide a command indicating to the wireless device to enter C-DRX. The command may further indicate to the wireless device a number of C-DRX cycles through which to remain in a low power state.
