    Abstract: Se proporcionan un proceso y un aparato para producir una mezcla homogenea de hidrocarburo aromatico gaseoso y un gas que contiene oxigeno para reacciones en fase gaseosa cataliticas, en particular una mezcla homogenea de o-xileno gaseoso y/o naftaleno y aire para preparar anhidrido ftalico. El hidrocarburo aromatico liquido se atomiza para formar gotas que tienen un diametro menor de 1 mm y que se inyectan dentro de una corriente de gas (12) que contiene oxigeno, precalentada por arriba del punto de ebullicion del hidrocarburo aromatico. De acuerdo con la invencion, el hidrocarburo aromatico se- atomiza por medio de boquillas (15) que forman un cono hueco (16), preferiblemente por medio de boquillas de turbulencia. La mezcla de o~xileno/aire se produce ventajosamente en una camara que se une por paredes laterales (18) calentadas por arriba del punto de ebullicion del hidrocarburo.
