    Abstract: 3-amino-5-nitro benzisothiazoles of formula (I) is prepd. by ring closure of 4-nitro anthranilic acid thioamides. (in which X is CN, carbomyl, or a carboxylic ester gp., pref. CN or carboxylic ester). In an example, 13.2 pts. 3-cyano 5-nitro anthranilic acid thioamide is suspended in 100 vols. acetic acid and 7.6 parts 50% H2O2 added with strong string at room temp. After 6h stirring, the orange-red crystalline prod. is filtered off, with a yield of 13g. (99% theory) and m.pt. 254-256 degrees C. Used for prepn. at azo dyes, esp. blue or green dyes for polyesters and cellulose acetates.

    Abstract: 1410256 Separation of monochloro-o-xylenes BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 18 Jan 1973 [19 Jan 1972] 2617/73 Heading C2C A process for the recovery of 3-chloro- and 4-chloro-o-xylene from an o-xylene chlorination mixture consisting essentially of 3-chloro-oxylene and 4-chloro-o-xylene comprises subjecting the chlorination mixture to an alkylation reaction (as hereinafter defined) in the presence of a Friedel-Crafts catalyst, the alkylation reaction being effected by reaction with a compound capable of introducing a t-butyl radical or a 1,1,3,3-tetramethyl butyl (1) radical into a 3-chloro-o-xylene whereby to form an alkylation product 3-chloro-5-t-butyl-o-xylene or 3-chloro-5-[1 1 ,1 1 ,3 1 ,3 1 -tetramethylbutyl-(1)]- o-xylene together with a non-alkylated fraction consisting essentially of 4-chloro-o-xylene, separating the non-alkylated fraction from the alkylation product and optionally eliminating the 5-t-butyl or 5-[11,1',31,31-tetramethylbutyl- (1)] group from the alkylation product. By the expression alkylation reaction is meant the reaction with a compound capable of the introduction of a t-butyl radical or a 1 1 ,1 1 ,3 1 ,3 1 - tetramethylbutyl-( 1 ) radical into the 3-chloro-oxylene.

    Abstract: 1403618 Dyes containing phthalimide radicals BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 19 Dec 1972 [23 Dec 1971] 58476/72 Heading C4P [Also in Division C2] Novel dyestuffs of the formula (wherein Y is unsubstituted or substituted alkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or aryl, or is allyl; Y 1 is H, alkyl or alkoxy; Y 2 is H, alkyl, alkoxy, halogen or alkanoylamino of which the alkanoyl moiety is optionally substituted; Y 3 is unsubstituted or substituted alkyl, aralkyl, cycloalkyl or aryl; Y 4 is H or unsubstituted or substituted alkyl; and Y 5 is H, Cl, Br, NO 2 , SO 2 CH 3 , SO 2 C 2 H 5 or CN) are prepared by coupling diazo derivatives of appropriate 3-amino-6-nitrophthalimides with appropriate substituted anilines. Products wherein Y 5 is a halogen may be converted to the corresponding 4-cyano compounds by conventional methods; and products containing an OH group in Y may be O-acylated. The dyestuffs are yellow-orange to blue and may be used for dyeing textile materials of cellulose esters, polyamides and synthetic polyesters.
