Abstract: A process for the preparation of polyurethane foams, preferably semirigid polyurethane foams, having an improved foam structure involves reacting: a) organic and/or modified organic polyisocyanates with b) polyhydroxyl compounds containing at least 2 reactive hydrogen atoms and c) crosslinking agents which comprise at least one polyoxyalkylene-polyol having a mean functionality of from 3 to 8 and a hydroxyl number of from 200 to 1300 ppm and a content of alkali metal ions of from 150 to 1200 ppm, in the presence of: d) blowing agents, e) if desired catalysts, f) inorganic and/or organic acids as additives and g) if desired auxiliaries.

Abstract: Reaction of acidified saccharide with an alkaline reagent and an alkylene oxide results in surface etherification or partial alkoxylation of the saccharide, whereby cleavage and side reactions are avoided. Combination of the alkoxylation product with sugar-based polyetherpolyol gives foamed polyurethane of increased heat resistance and profile stability on storage and decreased shrinkage. Compact or cellular oligo- and/or polysaccharide containing polyurethane is prepared by reaction of (a) high molecular compounds having at least two reactive H with (b) organic and/or inorganic modified organic di- and/or polyisocyanates; (c) a chain lengthening- and/or crosslinking agent; (d) a propellant; (e) catalysts; and (f) adjuvants. The high molecular compound (a) comprises (wt.%): (a1) saccharide containing compounds (1-100) and (a2) at least one polyol (0-99), relative to the total weight of (a). The saccharide containing compound (a1) comprises (wt.%): (a11) an alkoxylation component (1-99) and (a12) a polyoxyalkylenepolyol (1-99) of an oligo- and/or polysaccharide, relative to the total weight of alkoxylation component (a11), defined and prepared as below. Abstract: A method of removing and reclaiming a double metal cyanide (DMC) catalyst from a polyol is disclosed. A polymeric acid that is soluble in the polyol is introduced into the polyol during or after the polymerization reaction. The polymeric acid reacts with the double metal cyanide catalyst thereby causing the double metal cyanide catalyst and the polymeric acid to form an agglomeration in the polyol. The agglomeration is easily separated from the polyol via filtration, for example. The recovered agglomerated DMC catalyst can then be reconstituted using an acid solution.
