Abstract: Acid stripping baths (used to decolour dyed textile materials) which contain as reducing agents hydroxy alkane sulphinic acids, especially those containing 1-4 carbon atoms, or their salts, or their reaction products with ammonia or ethylene diamine and salts of these products, are stabilized by incorporating in the stripping bath, or in a concentrated solution or solid reducing agent for use in preparing the bath, up to 10% by weight, with reference to the reducing agent, of a saturated aliphatic mono- or dialdehyde with up to 8 carbon atoms in the molecule or a compound which splits off such an aldehyde under the conditions of the stripping process, e.g. paraformaldehyde, formaldehyde-urea condensation products containing 1-3 methylol groups and formaldehyde-ammonia condensation products such as hexamethylene tetramine, or mixtures thereof. Specified salts of hydroxy alkane sulphinic acids are those of sodium, potassium, calcium and zinc. Specification 646,809 is referred to.ALSO:Acid stripping baths (used to decolour dyed textile materials) which contain as reducing agents hydroxy alkane sulphinic acids, especially those containing 1-4 carbon atoms, or their salts or their reaction products with ammonia or ethylene diamine, and salts of these products, are stabilized by incorporating in the stripping bath, or in a concentrated solution or solid reducing agent for use in preparing the bath, up to 10% by weight, with reference to the reducing agent, of a saturated aliphatic mono- or di-aldehyde with up to 8 carbon atoms in the molecule or a compound which splits off such an aldehyde under the conditions of the stripping process, e.g. paraformaldehyde, formaldehyde-urea condensation products containing 1-3 methylol groups and formaldehyde-ammonia condensation products such as hexamethylene tetramine, or mixtures thereof. The stripping baths may also contain dispersing agents for the stripped dyestuff, e.g. condensation products of high molecular weight aliphatic alcohols, amines or carboxylic acid amides with ethylene oxide or aliphatic-aromatic sulphonic acid salts such as sodium dibutyl naphthalene sulphonate. Stripping may be carried out at a temperature of 45 DEG C.-100 DEG C. for 20 minutes to 2 hours using a bath containing 0.01%-3% by weight of the reducing agent adjusted to a pH of 3-6 with formic, lactic, acetic, phosphoric, hydrochloric or sulphuric acid. Specified salts of hydroxy alkane sulphuric acids are those of sodium, potassium, calcium and zinc. Vat dyestuffs, e.g. anthraquinone and indigo dyestuffs, azo dyestuffs and metal complex azo dyestuffs may be stripped from wool, silk, polyamide, polyurethane, polyacrylonitrile, polyester or casein derivative fibres or fabrics. Specification 646,809 is referred to.

Abstract: A mixture containing a major proportion of one or more dithionites is stabilized by a minor amount of a dry, powdered, readily water-soluble synthetic polymer having a K value between 20 and 280, preferably between 40 and 50, which is not capable of reacting chemically with the dithionites under the conditions of storage and transportation. The dithionites may be those of sodium and other alkali metals, or of zinc, or ammonium dithionite. Polymers which may be used, in amount, say, 1 to 5%, include homo- and co-polymers of (meth)acrylic acid, (meth)acrylamide, vinyl alcohol, ethylenimine, vinylpyrrolidone and acetals, and polymers of diethylaminomethylene (meth)acrylamide. The mixture may also contain carbonates, sulphates and polyphosphates.
