    Abstract: Esters are disclosed of citric acid or acetylcitric acid anhydride with compounds containing at least 3 OH groups selected in the group formed by polyglycerine, sucrocarboxylic acids, alkylglucosides, derivates of oligosaccharides, aminosorbit, aminodisorbit, glucosamine, triethanolamine and trishydroxyethyl-melamine, in which each OH group of the ester alcohol components is esterified in average with 0.15 to 1 molecule citric acid or acetylcitric acid anhydride. Also disclosed is the use of these citric acid esters as additives to phosphate-poor or phosphate-free washing and cleaning products.

Also claimed is the preparation of amidocarboxylic acids or their derivatives of formula R1-CO-NR2-A-CO-R4 (IV) by partially or completely hydrolysing (I) and reacting them with alcohols, phenols or oxygen-transferring compounds during or after hydrolysis : R1 = as for (I) except that it can also contain a group of formula -CO-NR2-A-CO-R4 (ii) as a substituent ; and R4 = OH, NH2, OOH, (cyclo)alkoxy, alkenyloxy, arylalkoxy or (hetero)aryloxy, in which the organic groups may contain one or more substituents.

    Abstract: Described are polycondensation products obtained by condensing (a) butane-1,2,3,4-tetracarboxylic acid, optionally mixed with hydroxycarboxylic acids or other carboxylic acids, with (b) polyhydroxy compounds selected from the group comprising mono-, oligo- and polysaccharides, reduced mono- and oligosaccharides and their amino derivatives, oxidized mono-, oligo- and polysaccharides, alkyl polyglycosides, polyvinyl alcohols and oligoglycerins with more than 2 glycerin units, or mixtures thereof, plus, optionally, (c) up to 20 mole %, relative to component a, of alkylene glycols, polyalkylene glycols or monohydric C4-C20 alcohols, in the ratio, by weight, of a:b from 50:1 to 0.5:1, the condensation products produced having a K-value of 8 to 100 (determined by the H. Fikent method in a 2 % by wt. aqueous solution at 25 DEG C and pH 7 on the Na salts of the condensation products). The invention also concerns the use of the polycondensation products as additives to low-phosphate or phosphate-free washing or cleaning agents in amounts ranging from 0.1 to 30 % by wt. relative to the agent.

    Abstract: New polyglycerol ether carboxylates of formula shown are claimed. R = of formula (I) or (II), and up to 80% of the R gps. = H; X = H, alkali metal, NH4 and/or substd. NH4; and n = 1-10. (I) are prepd. by etherifying 20-100% of the OH gps. of cpds. of formula (III) by reaction with maleic and/or itaconic acid or anhydride, in aq. medium in presence of at least 30 mols% of alkaline earth metal ions, w.r.t. the dicarboxylic acid or anhydride, at pH 9-13 and 50-150 deg C. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) are additives in phosphate-free or low-phosphate washing and cleaning compsns., in amt. of 0.1-20 wt.% (claimed). They can also be added to the last rinse, to give a soil-release effect. (I) have a synergistic effect with other components of washing compsns., inhibiting greying and reinforcing the action of other components. They are esp. useful in removing particulate dirt e.g. clay and are biodegradable.
