Abstract: A process for the manufacture of finely divided polyester-imide powders wherein solutions of polyester-imides in organic solvents are solidified by cooling, the solvent is removed by sublimation and the solid product is pulverized. Abstract: Impregnating-, or laminating and adhesive agent based on polyesterimide precondensates, and opt. contg. polar organic solvents, comprises the reaction prod. of (A) melamine, (B) >=1 di or polybasic acid and/or its anhydride, acid chloride or ester of a lower mono-alkanol, (C) >=1 polyvalent alcohol and, opt. (D) >=1 aromatic dicarboxylic acids or their esters with lower alkanols, the molar relationship of (A):(B)being from 1:1.1 to 1:3. Pref. the precondensate contains (condensed) 5-15 wt.% (A), 15-70 wt.% (B), 10-25 wt.% (C) and 5-55 wt.% (D). The precondensates show esp. advantageous processing props. and impregnates, laminates and adhesive bonds made with the agent show excellent flexural strength and good temp. stability.

Abstract: Dicarbonyl chlorides (I) contg. imide gps. are produced by (a) suspending trimellitic anhydride (II) and aromatic diamines (III) of the formula H2N.C6H4.X.C6H4.NH2) (in which X is CH2, 0, S, SO2 or CO; the NH2 gps. can be in the o-, m- or p-position) in a high-boiling inert organic liquid (IV) and reacting to the diimido-dicarboxylic acid (V) and then (b) converting (V) to (I) with SOCL2 or COCL2. High temp. -resistant polymers and pigments are produced by reacting a suspension of (I) in PhNO2, without further purificn., with diphenols, diamines or aminophenols. (I) are obtd. in almost 100% yield and in high purity by a process suitable for technical operation.

Abstract: Finely divided aqs. polyesterimided dispn. contains 20-60 wt. % polyesterimide with a particle dia. of 5 mum., 0.5-8 wt. % flow-promoting agent and -8 wt. % catalyst, the polyesterimide being a precondensate of (A) melamine, (B) >=1 di or poly-basic acid and/or its anhydride, acid chloride or ester of a lower mono-alkanol, (C) >=1 polyvalent alcohol and opt. (D) >=1 aromatic dicarboxylic acid or their esters with lower alkanols, the molar ratio of (A):(B) being from 1:1. 1 to 1:3. Prep. the precondensate contains (condensed) 5-15 wt. % (A), 15-70 wt. % (B), 15-25 wt. % (C) and 5-55 wt. % (D). The dispersion exhibits excellent storage stability and is suitable for prodn. of coatings, impregnations and adhesives bonds with improved heat stability, hardness and solvent stability.
