    Abstract: In the production of aqueous polymer dispersions by free radical emulsion polymerisation of monomers, a mini-emulsion (I) is added before or during polymerisation. (I) is an aqueous emulsion, stabilised with a surfactant, which contains emulsified monomer droplets with a particle size of 10-500 nm and a co-stabiliser, dissolved in the monomer, which is at least twice as soluble in the monomer as it is in water. Also claimed are polymer dispersions obtained in this way.
