    Abstract: The present invention relates to aqueous binder dispersions for the preparation of, inter alia, paints and finishes, substantially containing (A) from 0.5 to 50% by weight of a phenolic resin precondensate, (B) from 20 to 70% by weight of a copolymer of predominant proportions of alkyl acrylates and/or methacrylates, minor proportions of comonomers with groups capable of crosslinking and other comonomers, the copolymer being in the form of a dispersion and being crosslinkable by a condensation reaction, and (C) from 10 to 70% by weight of a graft elastomer comprising a diene polymer as the base polymer and a copolymer of, substantially, styrene, acrylonitrile and C1-C6-alkyl acrylates and/or methacrylates, as the graft polymer, the graft elastomer being in the form of a dispersion, the percentages being based on the solids content of the total amount of (A), (B) and (C).

    Abstract: Vinyl copolymer compositions, especially ASA compositions, exhibit improved weatherability and color retention performance when processed according to the invention. Disclosed herein is a method of improving the weatherability and color retention performance of vinyl copolymer compositions and exterior siding incorporating such vinyl copolymer compositions. More specifically, a method is disclosed comprising improving the weatherability and color retention of vinyl copolymer compositions, especially ASA compositions, which is advantageous with respect to cost and ease of manufacturing. Composite articles are also disclosed incorporating the foregoing improved vinyl copolymer compositions as an exterior layer.

    Abstract: The invention concerns a process for preparing rubber-modified moulding compounds, characterized in that: a1) a mixture (A) comprising acrylate or methacrylate derivatives or acrylate and methacrylate derivatives and a solvent, optionally containing olefinically unsaturated compounds which are not acrylate or methacrylate derivatives, is anionically polymerized; or that a2) acrylate or methacrylate derivatives or acrylate and methacrylate derivatives are sequentially anionically polymerized to form block copolymers in the presence of a solvent which optionally contains olefinically unsaturated compounds; and b) the reaction mixture obtained according to a1) or a2) or a1) and a2) is subjected to a radically initiated polymerization process, optionally after the addition of further unsaturated compounds.
