Abstract: A pickling solution (pH 4 to 9) for removing rust from iron and steel contains an a-aminocarboxylic acid having at least one group with a formula in which X denotes the radical -CH2-CH2-OH or -CH2-COOH and/or an alkali metal salt of such an acid, and a polyalcohol having at least four hydroxyl groups but no aldehyde groups e.g. erythritol, adenitol, arabitol, hexitols, xylitol, sorbitol, dulcitol, mannitol, and pentaerythritol. A reducing agent, e.g. alkali metal sulphites, bisulphites and dithionites and alkali metal salts of a-hydroxyalkenesulphinic acids and a-aminoalkenesulphinic acids. In an example 100g. of the tetrasodium salt of ethylenediaminotetracetic acid, and 100g. of sorbitol are dissolved in 1 litre of water, and the pH adjusted to 5 with sulphinic acid or sodium hydrogen sulphate.

Abstract: The invention provides a process for dyeing wool-containing materials in which the wool material is treated with a chlorination product of cyanuric acid or water soluble salts thereof and then dyed by a conventional method in the same liquor. Specifically mentioned are trichlorocyanuric chloride and dichlorocyanuric acid and alkali and alkaline earth salts thereof. The chlorinating agent is applied to the wool goods within the pH range at which the dye is to be applied, advantageously the praticatment solution is slightly alkaline, alkate metal polyphosphates being used, the temperature is room temperature to 70 DEG C., conventional wetting agents also being used. After chlorination a dechlorinating agent may be used to remove excess chlorine, e.g. bisulphites and hydrogen peroxide in free or combined form. The dyes used for dyeing are acid, metal complex and vat dyes. The wool may be blended with rayon, polyesters, polyamides, polyacrylonitrile, polyurethane or polypropylene.

The dried fabric is then united with a polyamide film by pressing them together under the influence of heat.

Abstract: Keratinous fibrous material is simultaneously dyed and bleached at elevated temperatures using nonalkaline dye liquors containing wool dyes which are stable to peroxy compounds and any dye-bath assistants required, the dye liquor also containing hydrogen peroxide and/or performic acid in amounts equivalent to 0.7 to 10g/litre of active oxygen and 2 to 30 times the weight of active oxygen, of a polyphosphate. The term "polyphosphates" is defined as being salts of phosphorous acids containing two or more phosphorous atoms arranged linearly or in a network, and includes disodium dihydrogen pyrophosphate, tetraalkali metal pyrophosphates, alkali metal tripolyphosphates, tetrapolyphosphates and heptapolyphosphates. The Examples describe the application of the above dye liquors to wool. The Specification also refers to the simultaneous brightening or antifelting of the fabric during the dyeing process.
