    Abstract: A partition-wall distillation column with 30-150 theoretical plates is used for working up the crude product from the electrochemical oxidation of 1,1,2,2-tetramethoxyethane with methanol in a liquid electrolyte to give trimethyl orthoformate. A method for the distillative work-up of the product (a) of the electrochemical oxidation of 1,1,2,2-tetramethoxyethane (TME) with methanol to give trimethyl orthoformate (TMOF) in a liquid electrolyte. This is carried out in a partitioned column (TK) with 30-150 theoretical plates (TPL), containing a partition in the longitudinal direction of the column so as to form a common upper zone (1), a common lower zone (6), a feed part (2, 4) with a concentrating section (2) and a stripper section (4), and a take-off part (3, 5) with a stripper section (3) and a concentrating section (5). The crude product (a) is fed into the middle part of the feed zone (2, 4), TMOF is taken off as a side-stream from the middle of the take-off zone (3, 5), low-boiling fraction(s) are taken off from the top (1) and high-boilers are taken of at the bottom (6).
