    Abstract: Described is a method of preparing unsymmetrically substituted triazines of formula (I), in which R1 is hydrogen, methyl or ethyl, R2 and R3, independently of each other, are an optionally substituted hydrocarbon group , by reacting a cyanoguanidine of formula (II) with a carboxylic acid derivati ve in the presence of an alcohol of formula (III), the method being characteriz ed in that the reaction is carried out with a carboxylic acid ester of formula (IV), in which R3 is as defined above and R4 is an optionally substituted hydrocarbon group, in the presence of a base or a carboxylic acid amide selected from the group comprising N,N-dialkylformamide, N,N-dialkylacetamid e and N-methylpyrrolidone and in the presence of a salt or a salt-like compoun d of one of the elements magnesium, calcium, aluminium, zinc, copper, iron, cobalt, nickel and chromium.
